I was wanting to try a ramen joint while I was on the island and I'm happy to say this place didn't disappoint! The atmosphere is very cool my girlfriend and I both loved the aesthetic layout of the restaurant. The service was great and so was the food and drinks. We went during happy hour so we got to try a couple things at a very affordable price. I'll definitely be back when I next visit Victoria! Dietary restrictions: They have rice noodles available which make many of the dishes here gluten friendly!
I went with my friend and it was really fun! The waitress we had was so nice, very polite and energetic. The food on the other hand didn't really taste "japanese" but it was still really good. Both me and my friend found that our soup was pretty salty. Not gross salty just "wow this is a bit more salty then expected" still yummy tho. The whole vibe was amazing.
Interesting Canadian take on Japanese cuisine. Very tasty with high quality ingredients. Prices were good, service was great. Will likely return next time I'm in Victoria on a cold afternoon.
Such a GREAT meal!! Took my niece & nephew out for lunch and tried; - Chicken Karrage - Tofu Frites SO GOOD - Spicy Miso Ramen - Shoyu Ramen - Pork Tonkotsu Ramen One of the BEST places in Victoria!!
We stopped by for dinner for 2 without a reservation on a Friday around 5pm. There are no steps to get in, so it is accessible for those with mobility aids or a stroller. We were greeted right away and offered a table quite quickly depsite not having a reservation. It was a bit of an early dinner and the restaurant filled up shortly after, so I do suggest making a reservation or coming early. The decor was very chic but I did find the music to be a bit loud for conversation. The table next to ours was a group of 4, so my dinner date and I had a hard time hearing each other over the larger group trying to be heard over the music. During the meal our server made sure we didn't feel smothered but they were present enough for us to not feel abandoned. I did feel there were too many things on the table/that it was too small. We felt crowded or like we would knock something down the entire meal. Our appetizer was tasty with excellent flavour but could have been a hotter temperature; it felt like they lost some crispness from sitting too long before being served. Definitely worth ordering again for the price, but I do hope they'll be warmer next time. We each ordered a different ramen for a main. They come in a large bowl with lovely presentation; a very appealing mix of flavors and textures. There are lots of options for every palette! My only complaint was, again, I wish it had been a hotter temperature when served. Lastly our desserts were very beautifully presented. Both were very delicious and fairly priced for the portion sized. Yuzu Creme Brule had no detectable yuzu flavour but was delicious none the less. Partner said the same for the matcha cheesecake; a good cheesecake but sadly no matcha flavour. The seasonal fruit compote on top was delectable though. Overall a 3 star visit for me; definitely worth a 2nd trip to try some other dishes but I'm still on the fence. It seems so far to be a bit too pricy to make it a regular spot for me. Staff get a full 5 stars for sure though! You were all fantastic.
The place had a line up outside…so we get the impression it was great. I wouldn’t say it is a little over rated. Certainly thought the price for a bowl of ramen over priced. Boa was fresh and good. This area is somewhat touristy and perhaps the reason for the premium $$
Walked by and decided to try it. Nice atmosphere. Food was okay. Drink price was inaccurate, charged higher than the menu. When we asked them about it they claimed the menu price was for the happy hour, but we looked at the full menu and that drink is not listed anywhere else in the whole menu. So it's listed in only one place, but in the end they will charge you more than that menu price.
So I heard a lot of good stuff about this place, and I was excited to try it. First impressions: the interior & atmosphere were nice and the servers are friendly. We went at 9 pm for their happy hour. The drinks were good and cheap. The first dish we got was the tori don. It was basically a small bowl of rice with what felt like boiled chicken on top, all floating in this very bland broth. The broth was barely warm and was so flavourless. It didn’t taste anywhere near a good chicken broth. Then we got their bao bun. It was good, a bit pricey for what you got. Then we got the ramen. The broth was fine, the noodles were lovely, the egg was good, the pork was yummy but kinda had a lot of fat and not enough lean bits. The other toppings were standard. It was not a great bowl of ramen for a ramen shop. Then, we got the yuzu crème brûlée. I am 99% sure it is just the frozen creme brûlée you get from Presidents Choice or similar grocery brand. I think that because I have the exact same glass ramekin at home from Presidents Choice crème brûlée. Not only did it seem totally store bought, but it was over cooked the custard part was grainy like scrambled eggs and there was zero yuzu flavour. That being said, the waiter kindly didn’t charge for the dessert because he could tell we didn’t enjoy it. The waiter we had was super friendly, along with the rest of the front of house staff. I would go to Ghost Ramen for their happy hour drinks and their nice atmosphere & staff, and that’s about it.
Service: great 1/1 star Food: below average 1/3 stars Price/Value/Ambience: 1/2 star out of 1 The service is great. People are friendly, reasonably attentive. No complaints there. The place is bright and clean. Menus is via a QR code scan which is fine but I would suggest that they include pictures on their menu for the ramen challenged. The food was a disappointment. I got the Tonkotsu and I felt the flavor profile lacked umami. It was also way too salty. The noodles were typical and the toppings, ramen egg and pork belly, were nicely done. However, for me, ramen is about the broth and noodles. They missed on the broth. The price is also on the high side. I was in Vancouver last week and ate Tonkotsu Ramen at a place at Metrotown. That ramen was lower cost, better dressed, and more importantly, the broth was much more flavorful.
First time here at Ghost Ramen. Apparently they’re usually super busy on Fridays and Saturdays but we went Thursday and got a table right away. We were greeted warmly and promptly by the host and had the option of a paper menu or the QR one. The menu was straightforward, simple with a lot of different options covering a lot of bases from baos, greens, appys, classic and special ramens. We had the best of both worlds, Shoyu Gyokai and Gekikara Karaage. Our server was attentive and very nice. The ramen was perfect.
