First time trying Real Ethiopian food! Was very impressed by the amazing flavours with the meat and veggie combo platter I got! The owner Kiki did an amazing job hosting me tonight, was very happy with my decision going in. Must try in Calgary if you are craving some amazing real home cooked food!
Loved every bite! The injera bread was soft and delicious. Nice Ethiopian music sets a pleasant atmosphere. Pretty decor. I was by myself for lunch and got the impression the experience will be even better, significantly better, with a group of 3 or more. Just a note, you traditionally eat this food with your hands. I didn’t want cutlery but I’m sure it’s an option.
Ordered the vegetarian platter and the awaze tibs, extra injera of course. The tibs was good. Not too spicy and very saucy. A solid 3.5/5 The star was the vegetarian platter! I despise cooked carrots and kale but somehow they made everything perfectly delicious. I think it’s good value for money as there was so much food that we failed to finish in one sitting. We had just ordered fries for our little guy and they were out so that was disappointing for him. Mostly definitely will get the vegetarian platter again many times over!
Overall had a decent experience at GEEZ. We've tried Ethiopian food in other restaurants in Calgary, and found the options to be more plentiful. I will say that the prices are reasonable, and you do get a decent amount of food for the cost. Location is convenient, and restaurant is tastefully decorated.
WOAH! The food here was amazing, and the prices are very good! We got the mixed platter and not only did we get stuffed at dinner from it, but had 3 lunches as well! I could not recommend this place more!Food: 5/5
absolutely delicious!! popped in on vacation. it was our first time trying Ethiopian food and they took the time to help us decide. The food came out so fast and it was so delicious and filling. this is definitely a meal we’ll be dreaming about!
Absolutely LOVED this place. The inside is clean, comfortable and has great ambiance, artwork, and music from this area of the world. With help from our fantastic server and possibly owner....not sure. We decides on a meat and veggie platter for the four of us to share as well as 1 side meat dish just to make sure we were super full! Actually it was the perfect amount of food for four. The sour bread is so good and the flavors of all of the different vegetables was incredible. We had one person at the table who is gluten free and vegan and the options for this special diet are seemingly endless here. Even the bread which I can't remember the name is made with teff and barley was not a.problem the persons gluten sensitivity. We all thought the food and service was fantastic and cnat wait to be back. At approximately 25 dollars per head including tip we thought great value!
What a wonderful meal!! My sister and I are vegetarians/vegans so we got the shared veggie platter and shiro a chickpea stew and it was an amazing combination. The food was so flavourful! The host was also very helpful in explaining the menu. Would definitely go back again!
We are not new to Ethiopean food and have always thoroughly enjoyed the amazing flavours. We decided to give Geez a try after reading the great reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed as the meat and veg platter was inundated with a ridiculous amount of raw jalapeños which ruined all the subtler flavours. No one in our party of 4 was able to enjoy the meal as our mouths were burning after the first few bites. We shared our feedback with our server who never warned us or gave us an option to not have jalapenos but not sure they cared. If you want to try authentic ethiopean food, imo there are way better Ethiopean restaurants in Calgary.
Ordered the meat and veggie combo as well as the coffee ceremony. It was enough for 3 people plus some leftovers. Really tasty array of food with plenty of injera on the side. The spices in each dish were PERFECT and it was fun to try so many different flavours all on one plate. I liked that we could eat with our hands or with a plate/spoon. The coffee was excellent, very strong, chocolatey, and aromatic. I will be back!
