Gazebo at Alexandra Park

This little parcel of land has much to offer. Historically, it goes back to the early 1900's as English Bay Park and was later renamed Alexandra Park after King Edward's consort. The Hayward Bandstand was built in 1914 and later refurbished in the mid-80s. There is a wonderful water fountain created by Charles Marega 1927 in memory of the late Seraphim "Joe Fortes. The park is loaded with a variety of mature trees. The star of the park is the mighty Red Oak, which covers the corner of Bidwell and Beach Ave. It is well over 100 years old and possibly the widest in the province. It was inaugurated as Vancouvers Poet Tree in 2013 by Canada's Poat Laureate Fred Wah and sponsored by Treekeepers. The views of English Bay and the daily sunsets can be magical. Great spot for watching the festival of lights fireworks.

Cute little park on a corner of West End that on top of being an unassuming spot in an otherwise relatively green area, it also happens to have amazing views for the sunset, and even moreso for Honda’s Celebration of Light. Haven’t done any other events at this park but I suspect there’s more going on here…

A small park with a great view of English bay. Alexandra is a little park with big views. Visit this welcoming space to rest on one of the many benches and watch the sun set over English Bay; a few steps from the seawall, this is also a great place to people watch. Grand old trees surround the Haywood Bandstand, a 1988 restoration of the original 1914 Queen Anne heritage structure. Developed around the turn of the 20th Century, this lovely green space was originally known as English Bay Park. On July 26, 1911 the park was renamed Alexandra after Queen Alexandra, Britain’s King Edward VII’s consort. The bandstand was built in 1914. When the private homes and boarding houses lining English Bay in Vancouver’s early years were removed, long time volunteer lifeguard Joe Fortes received special dispensation for his sterling community service. Fortes’ small shack was relocated across the street to Alexandra Park where he was allowed to live out the days of his life. Joe Fortes died in 1912. In 1926 the Kiwanis Club erected a drinking fountain in “Old Joe’s” memory which was completely restored by another generation of Kiwanis Club members in 1998. The latest restoration included a brick plaza and lighting for the fountain.

Another spot I enjoy going to unwind. Beautiful area.

Nice little park across the street from English Bay. Great ocean views if you want some shade and to avoid the hoards that regularly crowd the beach. There's also a large gazebo that you can use for gazebo things...

I would like to participate in the vegetable race again

As a young teenager and woman spent many nights under the stars, sitting on the grass with my friends and listening to whatever music or entertainment going on at the Gazebo. We grew up at English Bay and actually the whole of the West End. Wow, so many good memories!

Beautiful old trees lots of shade a music in the bandstand during summer

Rated low for all of the goose poop. This is a fairly standard park, while in a good location. Well kept flower beds - worth visiting IF you are already in the area.

A quiet park with good views of English Bay. Paved pathways on 3 sides. A water fountain in honour of Joe Fortes is alonh the Beach street side. In the mide sits a band stand. It is rarely used.
