This is the place to get the famous mango flower cakes! I've tried almost every type of cake that Gary makes and every single one is delicious! My favourite is the Black Forest cake with cherry jello. All his cakes are Asian style so they're not loaded with sugar and the cakes are all soft and moist with a nice light cream so you won't feel the need to scrape off the cream and just eat the cake part. His durian cakes are
Beautiful, fresh, and delicious mango cake. Artfully made with sweet mangos and tasted of high quality ingredients. The sponge cake inside was good, wish the whipped cream was just a tad sweeter. Worth it.
I would like to thank you Gary for his kind response in my email about the incident of my cake. When I opened the box returning home around 3pm, I found the cake tilted to other side. I just took a picture and sent the email to the company. He called me back right away and offering me a new one for our family birthday party. Because I didn't have enough time to pick it up again, Gary was willing to deliver the cake to my home after he got off work by six pm. I appreciate for how he values the customer. Thank you again for a very delicious Matcha Green Tea Red Bean Cake!
I was looking for mango cake for my boyfriend’s birthday, and I came across Gary’s patisserie and decide to try it out. I ordered it on their website and everything went smoothly. When I wanted to ask something prior to pickup, they replied promptly too. The mango cake looked very beautiful and tasted great too. Mango was sweet and sponge cake was soft and moist. Cream was not overly sweet which was perfect to our preference. It was sooo delicious that made me think that I should’ve ordered bigger one! Now I want to try their other cakes too!
I recently discovered this place by chance while having my car serviced down the street. Fantastic cakes with both Western and Asian flavours. I love the carrot cake and my mother-in-law in her 70s, who doesn't like overly sugary things, raved about the chestnut cake we picked up for her birthday. There isn't a storefront and there isn't much parking, but once you get the hang of advance ordering, find the door, and realize that it's easier to park on the street, all is well.
I was looking for a mango cake/mousse, and I came across this pattiserie in PoCo with great reviews. We ordered two cakes which were absolutely stunning and CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS ABOVE AND BEYOND!!!! They made the impossible to adapt to my hectic schedule so I can't highlight enough their awesome service and understanding. In terms of taste, the mousse's texture didn't quite live up to my expectations and the lychee jelly was on the bland side, but it still was pretty good. The chocolate cake was delish, not too sweet and full of flavour. The amount I paid for the cakes was a bit too high considering the taste of the mango mousse itself, however, customer service made it worthy.
Gary makes the best fresh mango cake out there! The mango cakes are loaded with mango and is definitely worth the splurge. I only wish there there was still a Burnaby location to pick up their cakes.
I sent a few concerns to Gary after the order and were able to get response in time. We were going to pickup the cake by bus after shopping. However, the weather turned to heavy rain and we didn't take a proper umbrella, we were all wet. Gary and his wife were very kindhearted, they offered a ride to us and sent us to the bus stop. The cake looks exactly like durian and was light sweet and delicious. We definitely recommend this bakery shop.
Ordered the 3D durian cake. It is a delightful spectacle and heavenly bite. If this was Shokugeki no Soma, I’d be floating on a durian cloud in my birthday suit, drifting across a soft sunrise. I hate the smell of durian so I’ve never tried it until now. Gary’s durian cake has changed me. I now smile when I think of durian. I got it for my brother’s birthday and he was overjoyed. Worth getting for a special event. It’s a show stopper AND incredibly delicious. Not too sweet ; Also tried these cakes in a jar: Mango lychee - My absolute favourite. Like an elevated mango pudding you’d get at dim sum Carrot pineapple - Love the addition of pineapple, but it could have been more moist. I bet the whole cake version is better. Black Forest - I wanted a more dense rich chocolate flavour, but it was light and the cream made up for the richness. Could have used more cherries or have it soaked in the sponge. If you get this jar, I suggest mixing it up.
Update: Gary reached out promptly to apologize for the cake not meeting our expectations. I felt like Gary really did appreciate our feedback. We decided to try another cake, the durian with fresh fruit on top. I can see why Gary’s cakes are so popular with this one. The natural sweetness of the durian in combination with the fluffy cake and not overly sweet cream, made for an amazing cake. We should have gone with the cake that had the most positive reviews and recommendations, than going off the board the first time with the purple yam cake. We will definitely be getting the durian cake again next time. Thanks Gary for the great customer service and cake. Original Review: I ordered the purple yam cake for my wife’s birthday. We both had high hopes since this was our first time ordering from Gary’s. We’ve heard great things from our friends as well. Presentation wise, the cake looked nice and the top looked like there was effort put in to it. No issues here. The taste of the purple yam layer of the cake however, was pretty disappointing. We’ve heard that Gary’s cakes were on the lesser sweet side and that’s what we prefer as well. However the purple yam layer was pretty flavourless. It tasted just like regular yam for a savoury dish stuck between layers of cake. We had many other purple yam desserts before so it’s definitely not a new flavour for us. The cake layer was fluffy and good. Perhaps Gary’s other cakes are great but the purple yam cake we experienced was definitely the low light of my wife’s birthday.
