Let me start off by noting that the evening I went with my girlfriend, the whole waitstaff had called off of work, so it was just the chef working. So please do not take the "slower service" too seriously. The chef was kind, courteous, and provided quality food. While the service was a little slow due to the lack of staff that evening, he brought us our food surprisingly faster than I anticipated being so short handed. The food was very good, We ordered five different entrees to try out, which I ate most of each and took the rest home. I was also very pleased with all of the options available. My bill was only $50 for all of the food I received, so I'm not sure what the other reviewer must have ordered to rack up such a high bill for what they received. The fried rice cheese ball was something I wouldn't have guessed to be as delicious as it was. I was very satisfied with my dining experience and would highly recommend this place to anyone who is a fan of Korean cuisine.
The food is absolutely delicious. This is a fantastic option for carry out. Dining in is a little different. The owner is operating by himself, so he cooks, cleans and is the waitstaff. That being said the wait time tends to be long, and the experience not that great. BUT the food is amazing. That's why I say it's great for carry out.
This place is a gem. The soy garlic chicken in amazing, the bibambap is wonderful- so flavourful. Food is ready quickly and is nice and hot. It's not flashy in terms of decor, but makes up for it with the tastiness of the food. I highly highly recommend it.
AMAZING and AUTHENTIC Korean food! If you're a foodie then you'll be lucky to eat from Gangnam chicken. Yes, the floors are sticky and the kitchen and bathroom are messy. But keep in mind, it's only one man running the restaurant, I've never seen anyone else in there with him, and the poor man always looks tired. But he makes delicious food and is very polite. If that's all you're looking for then you'll be very pleased. I recommend this restaurant for people who want authentic food, but don't care much for atmosphere.
Yes just like the other reviewers said, this is a one man show. The place isn't cleanest, I would describe the tables to have oil film of some sort and I wasn't particularly happy with ventilation. It smelled like oil everywhere. I don't think these things matter if the food you are looking for is delicious. Try spicy wings and drumsticks with kimchi fries. This combo is amazing. I was licking the sauce on my fingers. So I would totally recommend this spot for those hot spicy chicken wings.
Going to be one of my go to fried chicken place! I ordered the medium combo to split with my brother just to try them out and boy did I wish I ordered more. I feel like I could eat a medium combo by myself! The half and half sauce is the way to go and ask for it to be extra saucey you will not be disappointed. I ordered through the Yelp all which made the take out process super easy! I ordered it, gave me a window of 10-35 minutes, went to pick it up and it was essentially waiting for me! I ordered pretty late on a Sunday so it looked pretty slow when I got there. Either way I highly recommend!
Let me start off by saying I absolutely love this place. Since discovering it, I eat here no less than once a week, though I love Korean food. I've had home cooked, as well as eating at every Korean restaurant in the metro Detroit area including all of the places that are closed now. The food is absolutely authentic, and after trying about 80% of the menu I've yet to find something I didn't like. All of the meats are premium, including the beef which is all definitely better cuts. One thing you need to prepare for is the fact that this is not your typical restaurant, and first timers always walk in confused. There is a dining room, though I typically eat at the counter, or carry out. The decor is super plain, actually kinda drab, but the place is clean. There is no other staff except during peak hours than Paul, the chef and and overall great guy. It is obvious he either doesn't know how typical American restaurants are run, or he doesn't care. That doesnt bother me at all, and I spent a decade in restaurant service. Service is as fast as how many people in the restaurant allow, but always super friendly. The open hours are morning to night every day and Paul is here every minute, the guy obviously takes great pride in his food. The place is obviously chicken themed, and definitely try it. The spicy is my favorite but it's definitely hot. If you are with a friend, split a larger chicken combo and an entree. The prices are all reasonable especially when compared to other Royal Oak restaurants. Most entrees under $10 I could go on forever about this place, but I just hope it lasts. It is not a mistake that there are so many high praises in the reviews for this place, but you definitely need to be prepared for a more casual experience. The people who eat here love it, but I've seen people walk out in 5 minutes probably out of confusion. Definitely worth checking out if you like fried chicken or Korean food!
The bibimbap is good stuff. It's not the fastest place to get a bite to eat, but it's usually quite quiet, and the food is great. My only concern is that the place seems to be ran by a single man. I've never seen anyone but him, he waits and cooks every time I've come in the past few months. It must be very tiring if so, for a place that is open 7 days a week. Really though, it is none of my business. Best Korean food in the area.
First of all - bad service. The waitress was not tentative or welcoming at all. Ordered the cold buckwheat noodles and it did NOT look like the picture no meat haha and the soy garlic chicken was not crispy but was soggy. Overall the food was too sweet. Was disappointed and will not come back.
Food is good. Reminds my family of food in Centreville or Annandale, VA. Otherwise it is a terrible place to visit. I can only hope they are only at this location as a new clean restaurant space is being constructed. But as they didn't have the ventilation on in the kitchen or any airflow in the dining area, I fear they are near going under financial. Worst they just don't care about their customers' comfort. Jop Chae was good as well as the chicken in soy garlic not close to Bon Chon but good. I hope you renovate or move soon.
