We love fried rice. Maybe about a year ago my wife and I stopped getting food at Friendly Restaurant. Another restaurant in town made better tasting fried rice for a similar price, so we switched over to them and didn’t think about Friendly restaurant anymore. The other day, we felt like trying Friendly again. Very interesting points to make - first, the usual Chinese/Asian staff were not there - looked to be completely Westerners/Caucasian - not a big deal, happy to see that - friendly too - weren’t short with me like the Chinese staff usually are. You’ll almost never see that in places like Toronto. We ordered the Chopsuey which was perfect… We also ordered the fried rice… Big mistake… What happened to the fried rice, guys? It didn’t look or even taste like it was fried… It almost seemed… Baked? The food was still edible so we had our dinner and I’m not looking for any freebies - I’m not a Karen like that - just surprised at how strange the fried rice seemed. Pics attached. I would even say the fried rice today tasted worse than when we first switched away from Friendly restaurant. I’m a bit of an Asian cook myself, and I make fried rice at home sometimes - I know what fried rice, cooked in a hot wok looks like. This did not look like it had been in a wok. It looked baked… Anyway, we’ll probably switch away from Friendly again for another year and try it again to see if there are any changes/improvements to the quality of the fried rice. We aren’t putting Friendly down - just concerned - did you replace the cook in the kitchen? Why is the fried rice so bland and looking baked? Fried rice is supposed to have some light charring, shiny from the oil involved and a golden brown colour from the soy sauce used in the cooking process. 2 stars for the friendly staff and the good chopsuey… lost 3 stars for the strange tasting fried rice.
Didn't care for the egg rolls, or beef and broccoli. Shrimp wasn't deveined. Chicken balls were mostly dough. Noodles, lemon chicken, and skewers were good. Jello fish were adorable. Staff were friendly, if distracted.
Today on 1st of January we went to explore Lindsay, while doing that we saw friendly restaurant and checked for reviews it's 3.5 doubted and decided to give a try. Ordered beef fried rice waiter said 1/2 hour for order to be ready we placed and went out and went back after 1.5 hours still said not ready yet. Somehow they gave my order after another 1/2 hour we went out and tried in our car. Literally I swear on god taste like white rice. No egg, veg or any kind of favour. Just 4 tiny shaving beef. Paid $9.60 with tax. Then I realize how come it's even got 3.5 star rating? In one word it the worst fried rice I have ever tried in my life so far. Shame on chef who prepares food with no passion. Shame on you guys.
Went for the buffet, but we were disappointed. The food wasn't replenished until we asked. The selection is lacking. Had to get servers' attention to clear dishes and refill water. Priced a little high for quality of food.Food: 3/5
Very fair prices. The food was was very fresh and it was a very clean place. I would definitely go back. Don't let the old sign out front fool you. it does no justice to how good and clean it is on the inside.
Well, she had a good run while she lasted...maybe now Ping's will become Chinese King in Lindsay...
Every time I order pickup from this place, it is never ready on time. I called today to order only 1 dish, which shouldn't be too difficult to manage, one might think. I even called 90 minutes in advance, but when I got there to pick it up, it wasn't ready. "We are just packing your food now" I am told. 5 minutes later, they are still packing the food. I walked out, will never try them again.
The food is very good. Depending on whether you go for lunch or dinner will determine the food selection. Dinner is my personal favourite because of their torpedo shrimp.
4 for dinner at 6,15. Over half they out of Asked them to refill soup. Sorry. All gone. No dumplings. Sorry all gone. Sorry no more rice. Waitress kelp removing plates before finished p Vegetarian options: Cold.
I don't enjoy sharing negative reviews but I have decided it's time for me to speak. I started eating from the restaurant 2 years ago during the pandemic. My family and I really enjoyed the food. But a year later the food wasn't as enjoyable as it used to be, this is because the next day there would be something negative awaiting. I got diarrhea twice after eating from this place, I have vomited once after eating, and most recently I have gotten nausea from eating. But I have also experienced our order being 2 hours late to arrive which my second experience of diarrhea occured the following day. I didn't say anything sooner because my family still really loved it and I kept thinking; "Maybe it's just this once, or maybe it is just a coincidence." But since I don't get sick often and I have gotten sick 4/7 times I have eaten there, I have made my choice to give my review.
