Sausage was raw. Unfortunately, ate some of them already, so disgusting. Apparently the cook didn’t know the right job and needs to be well trained. Will never visit again.
The Esquire family style restaurant has been at this location forever. The longevity alone should act as a testament to the food and service. I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Sure, there might have been one or two times when the meal was a little less than usual quality, but absolutely never enough to write a bad review. They have won "Best of Halifax" awards numerous times and it is because of the friendly service, the quality of the food and the prices. The place has an old-style decor and atmosphere, and the menu could also be considered as old style. There is a fixed daily special menu and if you can hit it on fish and chips day, well, you are a winner. They are well known for their breakfasts, but I have enjoyed many an evening meal with my family. The servers are always busy because the restaurant is always busy a line-up is not unusual. There is ample parking in their own lot and there is now an outdoor patio for when the weather permits. If they are busy...be patient...the wait will be worth it. Summary: A great place for a traditional diner style family meal at a reasonable price served by friendly people.
Came just for the lobster roll and it did not disappoint. Overall a great diner spot for lunch, the chowder was good too!Recommended dishesSeafood Chowder, Sweet Potato Fries
Everything was delicious. We had lobster roll and pecan pie and it was very very good. The staff was lovely, they make you feel at home. 100% recomended!!!
Always wonderful food and a great atmosphere. I do find it a little crammed but otherwise a really phenomenal place. They don’t takes reservations so if you’re more than 4, your a bit stuck standing in the very tiny doorway feeling like you’re constantly in the way. However worth it. Still slinging dinner style food but incredibly high quality! Service was wonderful. I highly recommend the biscuits and breakfast menu.
Driving by this relic from decades ago made me curious to give it a try. An independent family restaurant that survived for decades must be doing something right. I stopped by today and enjoyed a delicious, fresh lunch. I’m giving only four stars because their famous chowder wasn’t very impressive. Everything else - including the food, atmosphere, menu and service - was top notch.
Every time I go to Esquire Restaurant I love it even more. I love the fact that it isn't a huge place which makes it have a cozy and homey feeling. The service is always top notch and the food is so good. The only place I've had seafood chowder with full size scallop and shrimp is at Esquire. Do yourself a favor and go get a meal there ASAP.
Great service. Tasty food but a little too much salt in my chicken penne dish. I don't handle salt well. The 3 others totally enjoyed the salt cod dinner. Parking: Very convenient. Handicapped parking too. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Haven’t been here in years. Was pleasantly surprised at the updated decor...still homey. The food was very good, hot, tasty, not too pricy. Breakfast for one was $19 before tip, but the service was incredible. Offered lots of coffee by all the servers, working together as a team. We will be back.
Had the Eggs Benedict with Peameal Bacon. Have been craving peameal bacon for a while now. So so good! My Dad loves a good chowder, so he had a bowl of that, along with their pan-fried haddock. He deemed his lunch EXCELLENT! Will definitely be back.Food: 4/5
