Story

The award winning Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company was founded in 1982 under the artistic direction of Esmeralda Enrique. Through "flamenco puro" and Spanish classical dance the company is well known as an innovative and dynamic force on the Canadian dance landscape.

Dedicated and driven, the talented musicians and singers, and expressive, powerful dancers perform finely wrought pieces that capture the essence of flamenco for the theatrical performances, special events and festivals.

The Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company never fails to mesmerize audiences while bringing to life the contagious excitement and passion that flamenco delivers.

The Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company (EESDC) is committed to the appreciation and dissemination of Spanish music, dance and culture. The Company is dedicated to the creation and production of new choreographic works, original music and to the presentation and preservation of the its extensive repertoire. EESDC is passionate about dance and we believe in the transformative power of the arts to make our world a rich and more tolerant place. Flamenco is an art form whose strength lies in its universality, expressing the shared experience of the human condition. It is informed by a rich history and diverse culture that compels us and inspires our audiences.

The Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company was founded to:

• Promote a public appreciation and interest in flamenco and Spanish dance, music and culture.

• Provide facilities for Spanish dancing.

• Create new dance works and maintain a strong repertoire for all types of presentations.

Great place to learn flamenco! The classes are fun, and the instructors also make sure you are having fun and learning. They are passionate, and they care. Will be taking classes here again!

I took classes from a teacher from this school in Burlington years ago and she was amazing. The classes were fun, a great work out and I learned a lot,  so when I moved to Toronto I was excited to get back into things and signed up for the beginner classes at this school. I was in Esmeralda's class the beginners' class and it was so awful.  I signed up for the classes to get some exercise and have some fun. I guess I missed a few steps because the next thing I know, Esmeralda is stopping the whole class and telling me to do it again, by myself in front of everyone. She made me do the steps again and again until I got it right and of course because this was so utterly humiliating I couldn't get it right and kept making mistakes. When I trained with the other teacher, I had no problems doing the steps, following the rhythm and loved it.  The class I had with Esmeralda was one of the most humiliating experiences of my life and I left the class in tears.  I went back a few weeks later to try a class with a different teacher and still left with such a bad taste in my mouth that I never went back. I didn't even ask for a refund so it was a waste of about $300.  I get it, this is an academy and they want students to take it seriously, and I did. I was a bit rusty and getting back into it after not dancing for about 8 years and wanted to improve my dancing and get better. This school may be amazing for some, but my experience with it was horrendous

Great place for learning flamenco! the teachers are great, classes with Sra. Esmeralda are a bit strict but i believe that flamenco is a dance that reacquires straight and that strict teacher is exactly what it needs! Highly recommend it!

I have been studying with Sra. Enrique since 2011, and I have learned more than flamenco form and rhythm from her. Whether you've just discovered flamenco or have been dancing for years, the Academy of Spanish Dance is a great place to further your learning.

Esmerelda is a gem and a legend in our city. I am grateful for everything I learn from her. I am constantly amazed at all the people she has developed over the years- her reach is so extensive in our city! I am excited to go back very soon!

When I called, the lady on the phone was very rude. And the website is trash, has very little information and when we called to ask... she caught an attitude. And your dancing is boring anyway, you lucky it’s an assigned project, because you are irrelevant

Danced here for the majority of my childhood and it was the best decision of my life. Such an empowering type of dance to learn!
