The store is now closing and to be honest I am not at all surprised. It is a store that sells items for children but the first time I went in, the owners didn't seem too keen on having the children, whose parents were buying them things, touch anything. Sarah, the owner, seemed to favour only certain people going into the store.
When I purchased something, it was rang into the register incorrectly and when I brought it to their attention, I received a rather rude response as if I made the mistake on my part on purpose. The bill was still not corrected but I was sent away with the guarantee that it had been fixed thoroughly.
While I support local businesses and it is truly disappointing when they are unable to compete with the larger big box stores, I still believe that these business owners have to have some kind of respect for new and old customers. I did not swear at the owners, I did not break anything ( I even cleaned up while she was fixing my bill), yet I was treated as if they did not want my business.
Well, kudos to them, attitude like they showed me is probably one of the factors they could not make it profitable to continue on. The store was only in business for 3 years and while retail is a tough business, some do succeed. They have failed in even making the 5 year mark and sometimes it all comes down to poor customer service.
Good-bye Elm Hill Kids, you will not be missed!
