Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery

About

Ellsworth Dairy Cooperative is based in the Heart of WI's Dairyland in the town of Ellsworth, and was proclaimed the "Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin" in 1984. In 2011 the Comstock Creamery became part of the Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery family.

Story

Those familiar with Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery realized its significance long before former Wisconsin Governor Anthony S. Earl proclaimed it as the "Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin" in 1984.

Our over 450 proud dairy farm family owners live near Ellsworth, throughout Wisconsin, and into Minnesota. We formed our cooperative to manufacture and sell butter. In 1966, we began our first expansion by making cheese. Two years later, we began our second expansion by selling packaged curds.

Today 100% All Natural Premium Cheddar Cheese Curds are our specialty product – and being sold nationwide. They can be purchased fresh at our on-location store, found in grocery stores or purchased online and shipped direct to you.

Breaded cheese curds also sold on-site, in grocery stores and in restaurants. You’ve probably enjoyed our curds at A&W® Restaurants, Green Mill and others, as well as at Miller Park, Target Field, Soldier Field and other professional sports venues, carnivals, festivals and fairs.

Today, our 400+ cooperative patrons provide 1,700,000 pounds of milk per day to the creamery. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we manufacture 46 million pounds of cheese annually. In addition, 30 million pounds of whey powder are manufactured and distributed each year.

In June 2011, the Comstock Creamery (formerly Blaser’s USA), in Comstock, WI, joined the Ellsworth Cooperative family. Best known for Havarti and Muenster cheeses, also watch for their Artisan & Specialty Brands - Blaser’s, Antonella, and Kammerude Gouda. Together we now offer over 80 assorted cheeses.

We invite you to visit our retail stores where in addition to our vast selection of fresh cheese curds and specialty cheese we also offer meats, crackers, souvenirs, unique kitchenware and gift items.

Extended summer hours until Labor Day! An incredible gem - worth the trip to try the freshest cheese curds ever. Soft, warm, and squeaky - you just can’t get them this incredible except at the source. Along with a mix of all things Wisconsin - beer, pizza, and cheese! Try the unique flavored soft serve as well. Special secret: just to the left of the registers is a freezer case. Grab some frozen beer battered curds and deep fry them at home about two minutes. An extra treat!
I grew up with my grandfather grabbing some fresh warm curds from this very creamery on his way back home on the weekends. It’s not only reminiscent of my childhood, but as an adult I have tried over a dozen different cheese curds from Wisconsin to Seattle Washington and nothing has ever compared to Ellsworth Cooperative. If the curd doesn’t squeak, it hasn’t been made right. The classic is always the best way to go.
I’ve never had cheese curds before but I had to try it while I was in Wisconsin. The curds were fresh and good. The ice cream was delicious.
Great cheese! Haven't visited personally but found their product at a grocery store here in Louisiana. I picked up the natural cheddar cheese curds and the cajun. Cajun might be a stretch but the seasoning was really just right for these small bites of cheese. Will buy again next time I see them.
Hands down best creamy and rich ice cream. Also have fresh squeaky cheese curds, made that day.
These cheese curds are the best I've had. Bought a used car in Ellsworth and was recommended to try the curds here before making my trip back home.
We love the creamery! Just made a quick trip to stock up on curds. We also got some brats, crunchers, and cheese spread! Friendly service and the staff never judge us for how much we buy.
Got a chocolate ice cream cone. It was soft, creamy and tasty. Nice litter area outside to sit for a rest while eating said cone. The staff was nice when my wife found her favorite cheese that gets at our local store. It's kind of fun to get something from the source but a little to long of a drive to do it often but if your in the area I suggest stopping for something to snack on.
Best fresh cheese curds! Nice section of cheeses, snacks, and rich ice cream. Outdoor seating/picnic tables and an outdoor fried cheese curd stand. Nice stop for a picnic.
Drove here while visiting Minnesota just so I could try the cheese curds. Let's just say it was definitely was not disappointed. Oh. My. Goodness. Should've gotten some ice cream while I was there but decided not to. Best cheese curds I have ever had in my life.
