Elgin St. Thomas Public Health (ESTPH) works together with our communities to promote and protect the health of people who live, work and play in Elgin County. We deliver a variety of mandatory health programs and services set by the Province of Ontario.
Elgin St. Thomas Public Health is one of 36 Public Health Units operating in the Province of Ontario. We are a non-profit agency funded jointly by the provincial governments and the City of St. Thomas and County of Elgin.
We serve a population of approximately 90,000. We are located just south of London, in the southern part of Ontario. The area is a mix of urban and rural populations.
Elgin St. Thomas Public Health is dedicated to building a healthy community by promoting and supporting the health of the people who live, work and play in Elgin County through the delivery of effective public health programs and services.
ESTPH provides programs, events and clinics such as:
• Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program
• Well Baby Drop-ins
• Immunization Clinics
• Sexual Health Clinics
• Food Handler Certification
• Prenatal Classes (Online & In-house)
• TB Skin Testing (by appointment only)
ESTPH supports families with:
• Telephone contact by a Public Health Nurse after delivery of a baby
• Healthy Babies, Healthy Children home visiting program
• Prenatal classes
• Dental screening and treatment
• Let’s Grow information for ages and stages
ESTPH is in the community providing:
• Infection control in institutions
• Inspections of food service operations
• Management of infectious diseases and outbreaks
• Enforcement of Smoke Free Ontario Act
• Health promotion in schools and workplaces
• Investigations into animal bites and health hazards
• Water testing
• Advocacy for a healthy community
