El Pulgarcito

Our family has been supporting El Pulgarcito for a number of years since we lived in the Markham and Sheppard area. Run by Mauricio, who operates the front of house and his wife, who makes all the delicious authentic El Salvadorian food in the back. Pictured below: - Con Todo Pupusas Minced pork, beans and cheese, our family's favourite that go for only $3.40 each! It is the size if my hand and 2 fills you up! It comes with tomato salsa and curtido coleslaw. - Tacos de Pollo, 3 fried tortilla rolls with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and sour cream. -Yucca Frita and Yucca Sancochada: Fresh or fried yucca, crispy pork rinds, tomato salsa and curtido coleslaw. And of course, Mr. Mauricio himself, who I got to have a great, but sad conversation with over the counter. As the LRT is expanding in the McCowan and Sheppard intersection, he mentioned to me that unfortunately he is unable to operate dining in, even though the Covid restrictions are lifted. The LRT is planning to shut down the small businesses in the plaza behind, which forces him to look for another location to operate again. I am not too sure how many months remaining they have at this spot, but I do hope those who frequently supports this business continues to support him and his wife when they are looking to operate closer to the Durham Region. Please call ahead, give a sufficient amount of time as everything is made by hand and with extra love and care.

This place is a gem, how did I not go sooner?! Ordered yuca frita and pupusas. The food was incredibly delicious and clearly made with love! The yuca cassava was deep fried and crispy and included chicharrón a nice surprise. Totally unexpected, was it's pairing with pickled coleslaw and veggies, great combination. Now to the pupusas- we ordered two kinds: con todoeverything and chicharrón y queso. Great flavour, both fillings were yummy, came with coleslaw and tomato sauce, again incredibly yummy and surprisingly tasty pairing. The owners were friendly and the service time was very reasonable. Will be back again soon!

Ordered pupusas, yucca fries and chiccaron. Everything tasted pretty good. Be sure to call ahead as it took 30 minutes to prepare.

Picked up an assortment of Pupusas, De Queso Con Loroco, De Queso Con Jalapeno, Chicharron Y Queso and De Chicharron. They were huge and super tasty. Only downside was that they were a bit oily. They came with tomato sauce and a great portion of coleslaw as well. They are made to order and as fresh as it gets! Worth a visit for authentic eats from El Salvador.

People come here for the pupusas which are very good and very filling. I found the chicharon to be the best ones although any flavour they have is good. Even their take on the club sandwich is tasty with tomatoes, chicken, and eggs. The quezzadillas are thin, has chicken, and just the right amount of cheese. While friendly, the service though is slow and they even gave our entire order to someone else. Good thing the other person realized it and returned but the owner was confused on how to handle reversing the transaction. Their food makes up for the mix up but more organization and a better way of order tracking would certainly help themselves and customers.

Been a follower of this restaurant for many many years they have moved a few times but what has not changed are those delious papusas. Full of flavor full of love not to many places around doing these delious soul food, comfort food. A must check out and taste you will not be disappointed if you order for pick call ahead, give yourself sufficient amount of time as everything is in house made "fresh" by angel hands and with extra love and care. Wheelchair accessibility: This place is wheelchair accessible for customers.

Get ‘Em while you can.. Unfortunately, they’re closing at the end of February and they will not be re opening. The owner says he and his wife have been at it for 30 years and they think it’s time for a rest… They’re knocking it all down to build condos as if there aren’t enough and there’s no other pupuserias in Scarborough. As somebody who is half Salvadorian, these foods are a staple in my home. I will now have to travel all the way to the west end of the city when I want to eat pupusas. The owners here are amazing people! So thank you for all your years of service to the Latino community here in Scarborough, you’ll be missed! Gracias por todo, señor y señora. Y Dios te bendigas!!

Pupusa Pupusa Pupusa, this is the only thing you really need to try here. All the customers are regulars. They order alot of Pupusas $3 each, and drink and hang out. I thought all their food is amazing and would love to come back to try other items. I didn't give it 5 stars, cause it seems like they make everything fresh and we waited 30 mins for service and food, and came very hungry. The food is so good, im willing to forget and eat more pupusas and bring back more people. Maybe I will call ahead of time so when I get there the food will be ready. I didn't know this was a restaurant as I drive by mccowan quite frequent and even rented a uhaul from a few stores over. This is for sure a hole in the wall.
