Some of the best, most consistent things about 124th Street are the potholes, the lack of parking, and the Duchess Bake Shop.nWe have been frequenting Duchess for well over a decade and have seen them grow with the increasing demand and popularity. Sometimes, when a business expands, things change, and consistency slips.nNot here; never Duchess. The flavors are always exactly as you last remember them - if not better. The croissants are flaky and light, the sour cream and cherry pie always perfectly hits the spot and don't even get me started on the Duke.nWhen you walk in, you're greeted by the most tastefully decorated space that is done in such a way that it still feels welcoming. It's upscale without being snobby. The display cases are laid out ready for you to select your goodies, and the staff seem to magically appear from the alcove when you require assistance. The fact that everyone gets their own one server here has always been something I've loved - it ensures the same level of service from start to finish.nThey've added a coffee bar and small store in recent years, so should you choose, you can check out provisions for all your at home baking needs.nnIs it pricey? Yes. Are you paying as much for the experience as much as the baked goods? Yes.nIs it worth it? Absolutely - YES. Should you just go and get it over with. Yes.nIf you have the opportunity to enjoy a sweet treat at this location - I promise you won't regret it.
Loved this French bakery. Cute décor. I tried the chocolate croissant, shortbread cookies and macarons. Everything was so soft and fresh tasting!
Oh Duchess, I’m like a kid in a candy store every time I stop by. I basically black out, and spend way too much because it’s so hard not to get one of almost everything.nnThe macarons are the best! And I’m so happy they brought back their quiche! We have the Duchess cook books, but it one of those things where it’s duplicated but never replicated.nnDecor and ambience is great. It’s like a little Parisian escape in the heart of Edmonton.
Very cute bakery and lovely family spot - we came here for our anniversary with our baby boy. It is a spacious enough spot to bring in our hefty stroller - which is a huge plus from me.nnThe staff were nice and helpful, and our pastries were delicious eyeing that banana cream pie for next time ;. I got a London fog which was delicious, and my hubby grabbed a cortado. He said it was on the acidic side for an espresso drink - which is why I docked a star on food, but that's a matter of preference. Very excited to come back here in the summer with the little one and maybe grab a few pastries in future for special events/invites.
The worst croissant I’ve ever had. Cold, sour mix of flavors, and even a basic homemade one would taste better. Worst of all, it tasted off—like something sat in the fridge for a month before ending up in my croissant. Sorry guys, but that's not why I come to a bakery.nnAnd no service once you're seated. I started eating my croissant, and suddenly, they called me to pick up my London Fog from across the room.nnGiving stars only for the beautiful interior!
