My family and I were very exited to try Dreamland diner. We finally had the opportunity and they did not disappoint! The diner looks amazing! My kids wouldn't stop taking photos. The new owners did an amazing job renovating the space! As soon as you walk in, you are instantly sent back in time to the 50's. I loved the old classics playing in the background. My kids were even dancing at one point. The food was amazing! Prices are very reasonable. I was really happy to learn that they had a wide range of food and also had a kids menu. From the moment we ordered, to when we got our food, the staff was amazing, Very friendly and happy! We all had milkshakes, and they were the best we've had from any restaurant! And the deep fried mars bar is a definite must! Dreamland diner is for the whole family! We will definitely visit Dreamland Diner regularly!
A fun place to go in the St. James area! Our party was greeted with smiling staff, who were very helpful navigating the menu. The atmosphere was exciting, transporting the guest right back to the 50's. In terms of food, the Dream Dogs were creative. Notably, the pickle dog. Not only did the hot dog have pickles, but it also had deep fried pickles and honey dill smothered on top. I was pleasantly surprised. The prices of the items were a little on the high side but considering inflation, it made sense. Will definitely be returning.
Points for a cool vibe, but the food was underwhelming. After having heard the owners were from St James Burgers which is super bomb we found this fried frozen food to be a big bummer. Corn dogs were the same brand as at the supermarket and dream fries were nothing close to St James quality. Friends had a burger and it was basically meat, cheese and a bunch of sauces. To sum up the food : it’s like eating at a high school football game. The dessert looks good but we were so disappointed we decided to pass. Will review if we come back for dessert.
I recently went during lunch time. The front counter staff were friendly. Music playing from the 50s in the background, 50s style pink, white and red decor. You give your name when you order at the front counter. Younger patrons were called to counter to get their order, older patrons had their food brought to them. They have WiFi, just ask for the code. There's a separate counter with straws and condiments - ketchup, mustard, relish, sauerkraut, banana peppers, and crispy onions. Ask at the front counter for small container for ketchup. I had a cheese burger $7.99, which was a single patty with cheese, mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish, pickles, on a toasted bun. Surprisingly, at that price point, they don't put lettuce, tomato or onion on it. Burger was okay, I liked the burger bun, but the patty was thin and a bit dry. I also had dream fries, which are a combination of straight, curly, yam, and tater tots for $7.25. None of them are homemade, but they're good. Straight fries are exactly like Costco fries. They have the standard fountain drink flavors. I had hoped they'd have something like cream soda but they don't. Size small is $2.29. Large is $2.99 and it's a bit smaller than a McDs medium fountain drink. Also, no refills. Coffee, hot chocolate and lattes are available. There is some parking spots in the back and on the side streets off Portage Ave. I'd go back, but probably to try ice cream or a milkshake.
It was pretty cool walking in and 50s music was playing. The props were cool. The food was great but I thought they would have more dinner options. It was a very uplifting experience. I was expecting the staff to maybe roll play or something cus they didn't seem like they were "in it to win it". You have to buy everything separate so it for pricey for just my daughter and I. You also don't get served you wait untill your orders up and then being your food to the table. Throw some rollerblades and a energetic staff , that would be the ginchiest! Kid-friendliness: They have a dance section just for kids
Great little new local spot. Very busy, and well staffed. Great hot dog and fries, but even better milkshake. Owner very engaged with diners and let my kiddo make her own cone and she won't forget it. I imagine this place will be the best Ice cream spot in St James this summer. Kid-friendliness: Kids only dance area, kids menu Parking: Parking on street and behind restaurant
Fantastic place to visit. All the staff were so pleasant to deal with. Order time was fast and easy. Everything was so delicious, I definitely recommend getting the caramel apple pie milkshake!!Food: 5/5
50's style Diner, looks amazing and music from the period enhances the experience : Staff very friendly and accommodating. Menu options thought through and reasonably priced. Had a cheddar smokey and a double cheeseburger, yam fries, dino nuggets and fries for our little son. Vanilla and Nutella milkshakes, red velvet cake with a side bowl of ice cream. Tasty beef patties with cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickles and relish in a perfect sized bun, everything you need from a cheeseburger. Smokey in a bun is served without any condiments which you can grab to your liking from a separate station. There's few to choose from, sauerkraut and crispy onions amongst them. Red velvet cake fresh and juicy, ice cream thick and creamy, good size for a side. And the milkshakes, man, the MILKSHAKES !!! Look, if you are from generation that watched Pulp Fiction and you always wandered how that $5 milkshake, that Mia and Vincent shared, tastes, don't wonder, go, order and be amazed ! If you don't know what I'm talking about, just go there and check how a proper, real, milkshake should be. 5 out of 5 stars, Winnipeg has another unique restaurant to visit.
We had the chicken fingers, fris and a chocolate milkshake. The chicken fingers are a good portion and very tender and crispy. The Fris were good. The milk shake was very yummy and good size too! I would like the milk shake a bit thicker as that would be my only complaint. Can't wait to come back to order other desserts!Food: 4/5
Oh my god my kids had so much fun they said best day ever! It is so nostalgic my family loved it so much. Simple cheap meals, very very good price. My smokie was great and the fries were great. Kids made some very nice memories here with their old time milkshakes with the side metal cups and the spoons!!!!! The milkshake spoons!! I didnt know they still made those! So cute. It was busy and the staff were so friendly. 10 out of 5 stars, the kids were so happy! So happy you're in my hood! Will be back. Great milkshakes
