I was referred to Dr. Shapiro about 3 years ago when my hair started to thin after my third child was 2. As most women are devestated with hair loss (and embarrassed), I was looking for a Dr. with some understanding and also someone who would explain in detail why this was happening. I spent more time in the waiting room than in his office and when I was in his office I was poked and prodded by a student that could barely speak English. I found Dr. Shapiro to be cold, insensitive and completely indifferent about my situation. I'm wondering if he is the only hair specialist in Vancouver? How can this man have a successful practise given his complete lack of "bedside manner"? I can not warn people enough...if you want a caring and kind hair specialist, stay far away from this man.

Same thing. Dr. Shapiro is an insensitive doctor and I spent more time in his waiting room than with him. I also saw two very rude assistant doctors, neither of whom spoke English very well. He also told me that the chances of my hair growing back were small and that I should consider a hair transplant. However, I am happy to report that with his treatment, my hair has grown back: B vitamin shots, iron supplements, proscar to lower testosterone levels and 5% topical rogaine. So I do respect his ability.

I too had the same experience. He is the only "specialist" in the area. I asked me GP.
I was pretty upset about my hair-loss and he basically told me not to worry because I was a good candidate for a hair transplant surgery.. I was devastated, my GP told me it was only a cycle and not to worry too much. Dr. Shapiro is in it to sell hair plugs, he's clearly had his own done.
