We stumbled into this lobster pound because it was the “first place on the right”. We were returning from Arcadia national Park after dealing with huge crowds. Lunch and a beer was our first priority. There were five lobster pounds on the road. We decided that we would stop at the next one on the right because we were going north. Not always the best way to choose a restaurant but we lucked out this time. We wanted lunch and some lobster meat to take home. I’ll admit it, we are lobster novices. They had this large area with lots of lobsters. As we started to ask questions, The owner came out and gave us a wonderful lesson in lobster. Since we wanted to take lobster meat home he was kind enough to help us choose a lobster, have it boiled and removed from the shell. For lunch We ordered lobster bisque and a haddock sandwich. Both were excellent. The haddock sandwich was breaded nicely and fried without being greasy. It was served extraordinarily hot and tasted very, very fresh. The lobster bisque was excellent. It was creamy and loaded with lobster. The staff was great and made us feel welcome. Overall is was a lovely causal meal on a sunny Maine day with good food and good company. It doesn’t get any better. BTW, the lobster meat we took made an excellent breakfast and lunch the day. Go to this place! You won’t regret it.
The lobster was sweet and delicious. And corn was perfectly buttered. The owner was great! The price is much cheaper than the other places nearby. We went to eat early lunch and got the best seats, which was close to the bar! We will definitely go back!
This place is awesome. Very authentic Maine lobster spot. They have lobster caught today. You can watch them pick it and cook it in wood fired pot. We had the two lobster with ear of corn. Soooooo good. The people working here are great as well. Very fun and tasty experience. Go here, you won't be sorry. The only downside is they don't have much for indoor seating so if the weather is cooler you may end up outside or up stairs in an open dinning area. But don't let that stop you.
The staff is friendly. The food is good. The tackleboxes holding the condiments are cute. And that's where the positives end. Plastic utensils make digging in the lobsters difficult at best. The place looks run down. No one was cleaning the tables. We, and two other tables, had to wipe our own down. The bathroom was in a detached shed which only one person could use at a time, and was not the cleanest. My wife refused to use it at all. The water barley came out of the faucet she there was no soap. None at all. I gave them one star for the food and one for the cashier's friendliness.
My came here first time is in 5 years ago. good to see it still open now due to the Covid-19 Great place. Local business. Local prices. You can get 1 to 2 lbs lobster here. normal price but no tips make it become the lower price for you to get lobster around here. But I strongly recommend you give some tips seems their are super nice. And the clam chowder is 1/3 prices to others restaurants. front desk and the boss are super nice. I surely will come back next time I came to Maine. Good luck to this place and their boss. They open after noon, and it will be better if you call them to make sure their open hours
Food was really good and fresh, I especially loved the lobster bisque. The girl working at the counter was really nice and took a picture of my family and I with the lobster statue. Service was fast and the outdoor seating is nice!
They were open, which is different from other lobster pounds in the area at the “end of the season”. We got a quick couple of lobster rolls and they were excellent.
Excellent dinner experience at Downeast. You order at the counter and they give you a pager to carry with you that pings when your order is ready. Seating options are outside, upstairs or a small dining area indoors close to the kitchen. You can see the lobster they will cook for you when you order. The lobster was delicious and the lobster roll was very good. We also really enjoyed the bisque and the blueberry pie. This place is nothing fancy but the food is wonderful! The service is outstanding. We would definitely return and we highly recommend a stop here if you are in the Bar Harbor area.
I don’t want to tell people about this place, it’s such a gem! Prices are way more affordable then then surrounding lobster houses won’t name names, but they’re smack between two others and they’re the best! the bisque and chowder have substance to them and their facility and staff are way more welcoming than others in the area. Go ahead and visit it, just be considerate of parking so they can continue to serve their community. And don’t go when we go. Haha Jk
Hot lobster roll was delicious. Lobster bisque was real good to. Slaw was dry. No flavor.
