Another "hidden" ? gem in Ottawa, this one located in a super-cute food truck close to OC Transpo's Tunney's Pasture station. I usually can't make their opening times but recently, I was able to convince my supervisor to trek it out with me for lunch. Food trucks, in my opinion, have become a bit pretentious and over-hyped, serving up small but overpriced plates of "gourmet" food. So it was a welcome change to experience something different at Dora-don. Service here is laid-back while the portions are large and reasonably priced $12/box. I got the week's special, Jajangmyeon, while my supervisor got one of the house truck? regulars, Okonomiyaki-don. The Jajangmyeon didn't taste like what I've had Korean restaurants but to be honest, I prefer it this way. It's comforting, in a home-cooked food kind of way. I didn't get a chance to try the Okonomiyaki-don but I'll find a way to get back out there to try it. My supervisor raved about it and said she couldn't stop eating. The ambience of the place is great too. It's unassuming and humble, blending into the row of homes behind it, but packs a punch in terms of good, hearty food. There are few tables you can sit and eat at but it's a food truck... go eat somewhere else e.g. your office. Unfortunately for me, their hours seem to cater to lunchtime for office workers in the area most, closing on weekends and only opening for a few hours in the evening on Thursdays/Fridays; however, if you can catch them when they're open, I definitely recommend grabbing a box.
I got the Taiwanese Braised Pork today and it was delicious. It is a great option for lunch or dinner. Good portion and a delicious fresh and tasty flavour!
Okonomiyaki don is super delicious! This food truck became a highlight of my trip to Ottawa.
Really good vegetarian options for a very good price about 10$. I had the vegetarian taco rice and the okonomiyaki don with tofu. Both were delicious and very different. I personally preferred the taco rice because of all the different texture and taste lots of vegetables, pickled and fried onions, beans..., but the sweet sauce in the okonomiyaki is so nice!
This food truck has tasty Asian food. After trying various dishes, I return for Bibimbab, Okonomiyaki-don, Okinawa veg taco rice and Beijing noodle. From recent visits I found their portion is not as generous as before, but okay for lunch.
Honestly some of the best food I’ve had in Ottawa since I moved here! I wish I started coming earlier. The okonomiyakidon is INCREDIBLE and I love it! Please keep making such big, awesome dishes - I think I’ll be coming a lot more often :
Great food. I got the kimchi with rice and chicken thigh, I would have liked a little more meat, but it was very delicious! I was very full afterwards. Great portions and great taste. Would definitely go back. Went back a second time, better than the first time I went! I got the bibimbap this time I got the 2nd last one! and then it was SOLD OUT!, because I saw that it was back by popular demand. It did not disappoint. Once again, full out of my mind and tastes amazing! There was ample meat/veggies. I'm going back next week as well!
Quaint but pricey food truck set up for rice bowls. Service is on the slow side. It's they seem to have a regular following of customers, but it's hard to find a reason to pay the premium when there's an equally good and similar option across the street in the food court at a much better value.
After seeing such rave reviews, I can't help but be disappointed, especially by the portion size. My container, which was the same one as appears in all the photos, was barely filled halfway. You could see the bottom of the box. They didn't skimp on the meat and the ingredients were fresh, but does any of that really matter when you get so little to begin with?
This place is stellar. The staff are super friendly, but the food is amazing. Very well made and delicious, with something for everyone. Large portions, especially for what you pay. Highly recommend.
