Brought from family here that were visiting from NY and they were very happy and pleased with the meal. Definitely the best Italian food I have had in the Chicago area. Donny G’s has great prices, and a nice menu to choose from, and excellent service from the whole staff. I went with the grilled octopus, Shrimp scampi and pappardelle bolognese for dinner. Can’t wait to come back and try some more items.
We are not from the area and were attending a family birthday dinner. The food was exceptional and the portions are large. Everyone loved their meal and most of us had something left to take home. Our waitress, Jennifer, was also great. The restaurant was very busy and she made sure everyone taken care of. If we are in the area again, we will definitely be coming back.
Friday, 1/27, was snowing, and we did not know what we would like to eat, we would like to stay home watching TV, but we decided, instead of calling to place an order, to go there and it was the best decision we made. The food was excellent: the fried calamari was perfectly done; what was that combination of olive oil, cheese, and pepper? I could eat only that with bread as my main course. My pasta in vodka sauce with extra garlic I asked to add it was divine. The service was GREAT!!
I have eaten dinner at Donny G's four times recently, and each time has been a wonderful dining experience. The entrees came with soup or salad. I have tried three soups, and all three were delicious, with my favorite being the cream of mushroom soup. The salad that accompanied one of my entrees was large, fresh, and tasty. I chose an Italian entree each of the four times, and all were excellent. It's hard to pick a favorite entree, but I must say the marsala sauce and the vodka sauce were outstanding. The service was attentive, friendly, and accommodating. Keep up the great work!
We had our family Christmas party their today. It was wonderful. Above and beyond. Service was great. Food was amazing . I can not say enough. I just wish we lived closer. But we will return . Kid-friendliness: The kids had their best deserts ice cream and chocolate syrup. Plus a huge bowl of fresh fruit. So very good. .
The portions were plentiful for two people. The soup had every type of fish in the bowl with a great tomato sauce that soaked up the flavor. The service was very attentive and answered all our questions.
I give Donny G's Italian Ristorante on North Avenue five stars! From start to finish this local gem went above and beyond to make our experience fantastic. Our appetizers were excellent, the fried calamari and grilled calamari were fresh and flavorful. Each of our entrees; lasagna, pork chops, meatball salad..., were large portions served hot and fresh to order. We really appreciate that they have live music and are supporting our area's performing artists. Antonio Duca was the young man that sang Frank Sinatra tunes and many others and he was fantastic. We will be back!
I made a reservation the end of November for tonites entertainment, Tony Ocean show. My party got there and we were told we would have to wait at the bar in the other room until our table was ready in the main dining area and where the entertainment was. We waited and waited, we then went to ask, why we were still waiting as we kept seeing others seated. The owner or manager was very sarcastic and said wait, get out of the way. As he sat other people. Then we asked again and he said, someone fell outside and ambulance was coming, not sure why that would affect the seating but again waited but he had no problem seating others. Obviously we could see that he was seating regulars with no reservations. We again asked why he wasnt seating us. His name possible George was extremely rude and said wait your turn. We went into the main dining area where many friends were seated for the show. He came by and told us we were blocking the bar. Our friend Tony asked why we weren't seated when we had a reservation, he told him, there wasnt any available tables. Then why were we told we had a table in the main dining toom and it would be just a few minutes? In the main dining room was a single man sitting at a table for 4. We had 3, we asked if we could sit with him and he agreed. One from my party of three approached this owner/manager George?? And said the gentleman said we could sit with him but we needed 1 chair. We were told that since we walked in we had given that Geoege a headache and we were bugging him about why we werent seated. He said you arent going to be seated anywhere. He refused to let us sit with that single man at a 4 top table. Needless to say, words were passed and we left. When we got there, I had asked a very nice young man if our table was in the main dining room and he said yes. This place was not prepared for the crowd of people who showed up for this fabulous entertainer. And unfortunately messed up reservations and let usual customers go in to sit and blew off some people who actually had a reservation from over a month ago. We werent the only ones. This place is very unprofessional. Friends who actually were seated after my table was told, there were no seats available did sit in main dining room and waited 2 hours for their food and had to go to the bar to order two rounds of drinks. They were unprepared and rude. I was also told that there were too many people allowed in the place, people everywhere standing near tables, people tried to eat and they didn't even have space to cut their food. People stated that it was a fire hazard and should have been shut down. I had visited Donny Gs previously and was not impressed, I decided to go back for the sole reason to see my friend Tony entertain. This place is a joke, to be accused of giving this George a headache because of asking when we would be seated when we were there approximately 45 mins to an hour, well sorry. My personal opinion is this place is not worth going into unless you are a usual customer because they will treat you like Cra....
The food and service at Vito’s are consistently excellent! For dessert, try their bread pudding. It is to die for! As a wheelchair user, I think their building is decently accessible. There are no stairs and the single person bathroom is spacious. My only criticism is that leading to the bathroom, there could be better spacing between tables. It can be a little hard to navigate, but it’s not a huge issue. Everyone is very kind, and I enjoy dining here.
Real authentic Italian food!! Great service and fabulous entertainment. Whether your going for a date night or a party this is the best spot! You won't be disappointed!
