Dewar and team have been helping me with my accounting needs for over 9 years. I am so appreciative of their great service and to trust that a knowledgable, committed team have my back when I need them. I'm especially impressed by their level of professionalism throughout the mayhem caused by the COVID19 pandemic when they are taking on a lot of everyone's stress and doing their best to help their clients. Nice guy but my US 1040 he prepared had errors on it that would have cost me hundreds of dollars in additional taxes if I had used it. My $500 Canadian tax bill ballooned to over $1000 with added services that either should not have been necessary, were not approved by me, or the service I paid for was never delivered. In particular I was charged $250, and waited 2 years, for a CRA Ruling request that didn't meet the criteria to be accepted. I also was never told there would be about $2000 in additional CRA fees if it had been accepted. I contacted the Professional Conduct Regulatory of the Certified Public Accountants of BC telling them that accountants should be more knowledgeable about this service if they are going to market it to their clients and their response was- " Mr. McCarthy is not a CPA nor his firm a licensed CPA practice. He is not a professional accountant." In reponse to your comment Dewar, I am being honest. I am the one who prepared all the US tax return forms, except for the 2 page 1040 that you filled in after you had the numbers from my Canadian taxes and sent me to submit to the IRS. You listed a $4500 itemized deduction instead of taking the standard $6500 deduction on that form. That is a difference of $2,000 in deductions that I would have paid 28% tax on if I hadn't double checked your work.
