Sweet place! Loved the alternative room arrangements. Kids were able to each sleep I their own twin beds rather than sharing a bed our a sofa sleeper. They had their own room while parents had a room. Everyone slept better that way. Friendly staff, clean room and common areas. We would stay again.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff friendly. My only issues is for the $245 We paid for 2 nights, it would have been nice to have a hot breakfast instead of just toast and donut holes. I know it's a smaller operation but it's not difficult to have waffle irons and batter set up for people. As someone who has worked in the hotel business, I know how important it is for many people to have a hot breakfast available that have a full day of activities planed.

The desk clerk seemed to be angry and did not greet us when we arrived. They did not offer any senior or government discounts during the month of July. The place was really clean but the floor of the pool and the spa had a stained brown appearance. The room was typical hotel room size but we had to get a rollaway bed and it used up much of floor space. Breakfast was at 6:00 but at 6:30 the lights in the breakfast room were still off and there appeared to be only cereal for breakfast. There was an elevator but I heard someone say there was something wrong with it. The water was nice and hot but there wasn't much pressure. The checkout was easy and the clerk at that time was friendly.

I would have not given this motel even a one star, but had to in order to post. First we made reservations and were promised a suite at the same price as the standard room--of course we wanted the suite. After arriving we were told that we only booked for one night and the suite was not available to us only for the first night. We even called on our way to see if they had booked the suite for us and we were told yes. We traveled 350 miles one way to spend the weekend. The price per night was ridiculous and they would not accept AAA or any other discounts because of the fair being held in Heron. Also we had 2 dogs and on the website it said they were pet friendly and there was a $10 fee for dogs which was fine with us. After getting there, there was a pet policy saying that the dogs could not be on the bed and had to be kenneled. We have stayed all over the US in some of the nicest motels and resorts and never have we run into a policy like this. If this is their policy, it should be posted on their website. Our reasoning for wanting to stay in De Smet was to check on the dogs several times during the day and take them potty. We have never had a problem with dogs messing the floor in any room we have rented. For the money we were told that cold cereal would be served for breakfast. At $102.00 we expected something warm in the morning. The desk clerk, who we were told later was the manager, did not try to make any other arrangements or work with us at all. We ended up having to go home that night and driving another 350 miles. Our week-end was spoiled. I certainly would not recommend this motel to anyone. Check out the Cottage Motel--they called and called to see if they could find a place or us--they care!!!

Nice clean and friendly staff. Not all the amenities as large hotels but pleasantly surprised for such a small town hotel.
