They started as a pop up working out of a coffee bar/ hair studio across the street and featured natural wines. Now they have their own beautiful space with Scandinavian style and abundant natural light and are a full-on restaurant, featuring lots of local farms and vendors. Love that they use and know many of the farmers and market vendors I know and trust. Love that they source their wine next door at Color de Vino, keeping so much of what they do truly local. Their in-house made rye bread is fantastic! I had the mushroom tartine… divine with perfectly poached eggs that oozed so deliciously… and we shared a hash brown that was crispy perfection, piled with fresh herbs mint and dill and parsley… who knew they worked together so well. Fabulous!!! If you’re in the area… GO! Dietary restrictions: Easily worked around my garlic allergy.
Wow. Darling deserves more visibility. This was a complete surprise for us. And I rarely give out five star reviews across the board. This little haunt on Whyte Avenue by Millcreek Ravine now is part of a small renaissance of the area that includes some cool shops and services. The space is beautiful. Simple architecture. And a gorgeous patio. Music plays softly outside and it's great to catch the last glimmers of sun beams over the adjoining building. The service was exceptional. Extremely friendly and helpful. Well timed. And the food was so out of this world delicious. Creative. Great fusion samplings. They don't keep a lot of the wine stock on hand for pours, but I respect that they manage their stock closely as a new smaller restaurant getting started. Amazing! 5 x
My friend and I went to Darling for Brunch and it was amazing! I would have to say it is by far the best we’ve had in Edmonton. We shared the Turkish Eggs so good! and the Hashbrowns both of which were delicious! The brioche French toast may be the best thing I’ve ever eaten! It was incredible! The space is beautiful and so inviting and the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely our new go to brunch spot!
Cute little brunch spot. Food was delicious I had the Spanish potato omelette with a side of generous amount of bacon and my partner had the Benny he was a little sad it didn’t come with some hash browns but all around very satisfied with the food and service.Food: 5/5
Local ingredients accompanied by an innovative menu made for a pleasant lunch visit. The menu descriptions do not do the dishes justice with the collaborative complexity of flavors. The serving staff were able to elaborate on the ingredients and palatability of each dish, which was appreciated. The wine list featuring natural wines provided many different options. A visit to our table from the head chef who personally designed the menu was a highlight. We experienced a very professional, comfortable vibe with attentive and knowledgeable service. We will be back and have already suggested many friends to check out this new, local gem.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Darling, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was captivated by the inviting ambiance and tasteful decor, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. The service, led by the fantastic server Hannah, was truly top-notch. She was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Her recommendations for wine pairings were spot-on, adding to the overall delight of the evening. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the selection of delicious wines, which complemented the food beautifully and elevated the entire dining experience. It’s evident that the restaurant takes pride in curating a thoughtfully designed wine list. Darling stands out as a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a combination of great atmosphere, exceptional service, and delectable cuisine. Whether it’s a special occasion or a casual night out, this place has it all, making it an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their culinary delights.
Had such a lovely dinner at darling. The food was was great, we loved every dish we ordered. The steak was my husband’s favourite and I loved the pasta! The service was exceptional, so friendly and inviting.Food: 5/5
Highly instagrammable if you're there during daylight with an emphasis on interesting flavour combos and sharing. This place was a mixed bag for me, as I'm starting to learn all tapas places are. We got off-menu scallops, a rye pasta dish, cod, a drink, and two desserts. The drink was amazing. It's sad they only have 3 cocktails because I'd say that was one of two highlights. It was a wine spritzer that came with olives in it. The olives perfectly paired with the bright, puckered bitterness of the wine. The scallops were raw and fresh, mandolin shaved, in a bath of oat milk and cirtrussy acid. Paired with dill each bite was a pleasant mix of bright and creamy. The pasta dish was amazing. I could have eaten two, and I wish I did. The pasta itself was rye, rolled and small. They were dense and their dark flavour paired perfectly with the fresh peas, mint, and dollops of soft cheese. This dish had the same green acid element as the scallops. It was a nice through line for the meal and very smart on the part of the chef. This is the dish I'd recommend. The fish was... odd. It came to the table on a cloud of fish smell. The fish itself was cooked perfectly--extremely moist and flaky--to the point that it was almost uncomfortable. It's flavours didn't seem as well married together as the other two. The radicchio was bitter, the sauce muddled, and my partner felt the fish salty. I enjoyed eating the radicchio slathered in sauce with basil, but not with the fish. The desserts were the almond creme and the chocolate semi freedo. The chocolate was a really cool texture, fluffy, creamy, and yet heavy. It was a little overwhelming with all ita toppings bur it was made better by how much I didn't like the almond creme. It shouldn't have cream in the title. It's a foam and it's a slushy. Very much antithetical to cream. It tasted like odd cereal with its foam and its crunchy almond flakes. The service was good if not a little over the top. They kept filling our water over us, and it became sortof awkward. At the end I admitted to not liking the creme dessert, and they were aghast that I didn't let them know before we paid so they could take it off. I appreciated this, but I don't think it's appropriate. If everyone could take things off their bill they didn't like at a tapas place, everyone would be getting half-off deals. The vibe was cute, it's very pretty inside. But it's small and they crammed tables in and BOY does it get loud. They'll want to put something soft up if they want to encourage conversation that drives spending. I would come back to try brunch but only if I could get a patio seat.
Atmosphere is good. Dropped in for brunch on a recommendation. Sold as a place to “share plates.” However, portion received just seemed a bit off e.g. 1.5 slices of bread. When I reached out to the person who recommended the place, found out we ordered the same dish but there were obvious inconsistencies in portions re: bread, bacon, and even ingredients re: endive salad. It seems the place is either taking advantage of the weekend crowd which we were and offering less for the same; running an inconsistent kitchen; and/or someone in the restaurant felt we were undeserving patrons for whatever reasons. See photos. Spot the difference.
Can't get enough of this place, the Anchovy Toast keeps on calling me back.. , love the wine selection and the food is small plates to share. I know that this place will probably not impress most people that are not foodies, so if you are looking for a cheap place to grab a buffet meal this is not your place, we went for brunch the other day and had a excellent meal.
