Had the BEST dinner out to celebrate friends birthday’s. The food and service was top notch. Sicilian sun cocktails started off the evening, followed by multiple dishes the table shared family-style. Olive sampler, flatbreads, carpaccio, arugula and endive salad, cauliflower gratin and mushroom ravioli… each dish presented and seasoned perfectly. Incredibly impressed with the service staff and Chef who personally checked in on our meal. Well done Culaccino! We will be back soon!

We had some interesting dishes prepared in novel ways here, which is not normal for Powell River. The food culture in this town is excellent, but doesn't take many risks. Not so for Culaccino.

Great food and service! Antipasto was delicious. Entree presentation was wonderful. Powell River needed a place like this ever since The Alchemist closed.

For a much anticipated first visit; Culaccino fell surprisingly flat on its face. An out-of-touch attempt to manufacture atmosphere has failed and you are left with an obnoxiously loud kitchen printer, chiming in every minute to give you the post-midnight, fast-food food joint "feels". To amplify the snack-shack feel, you can choose to cram yourself in the doorway (literally the doorway) or better yet in a traffic lane (like my partner was) where the customers and waiters alike push your chair often enough to grate on even the most patient persons nerves. The fettacini was a mess of greasy, sweaty noodles, missing any sign of flavour (not even salt). The chunks of spam in it, er, I mean pancetta, and the apparent fear of fresh produce (not even a hint of a garnish anywhere?) give me a distinct impression that the target audience here might be someone who's idea of home-cooked pasta is Kraft Dinner and ketchup. I reckon it was a quantity not quality scenario. The most impressive part of the meal is that a dish can be both overcooked and undercooked; as was my partners order. The plan seemed to be to under season, and cook till textureless followed by a clumsy and hasty execution. This place is an insult to Italian food and the only good things about it is the staff and the wine.
