Overall, not a bad campground but not a place that is going to completely impress you as well. You can tell that an effort is being made to improve the place which is a good thing. However, the campground is way to crowded. Not a lot of space is provided to you and privacy is limited. I have more space living in inner city Calgary. No joke. Also, the shower house does not open until 9am. For early birds, that is a pain in the butt, as there were line ups in the morning for showers. General store on site only had ice and wood. The staff and fellow campers were all very friendly and easy going. I would say that this campground is sufficient for those campers who would spend most of their time off site ie. Waterton National Park and just need a spot to bed down for the night. If you are looking for a campground were you would spend most of your day at in peace and serenity, Crooked Creek may not be the spot for you.
We had stayed in Waterton the day before and we’re looking for a spot very hard to find space when spontaneously road-tripping or even 2 weeks out cause everything in the park is booked solid and figured we’d try this spot. IT IS EQUALLY AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER depending on what you’re looking for THAN CAMPING in WATERTON. THE VIEW of the mountains and the prairie IS AWESOME and the creek meandering through is refreshing and fun for kids. The set-up of the campsites is great, lots of selection and flexibility choosing if you get there earlier and booking in on the spot or ahead of time. The price is equal to staying in the park and you don’t have to pay the park pass on top just to stay here. The drive to the park is maybe 7 minutes and maybe 15 to the Waterton town site. The outhouses don’t smell like outhouses and are actually good experiences and there are a few outhouse locations and showers. There is a wildflower field to the East and bushes around the sides and in the middle where the tenting spots are so there is privacy for them. I would 100% stay here again possibly over staying in the townsite campground. Even my kids were happy since the “mountains aren’t in the way of the sunset” and we still get to see both the mountains and the sunset.
This is third season coming here. Improvment every year. A little quieter this year. May be the cooler temps. Many tenting spots have been added this year. Fresh gravel new washrooms water and power very nice for the campers in tents.
Beautiful, clean campsite. nice and quiet. Location is great 10 min from Waterton Lake. The washrooms and showers were very clean and in great shape.has free wifi, power, water, fire pits, picnic tables, tenting spots, well maintained outhousesI, also wanted to thank the employee who found extra water hose for us that we forget to bring from home.Thank you so much for being so accommodating!
A hidden gem for tent camping near Waterton. The RV lot looks tight but the newly made tent sites are excellent. Most are walk-in sites, which makes the campground quieter. Beautiful view of the mountains. Bathrooms are cleaned daily with flush toilets. New fire pits include grate for easy cooking. These are large, secluded sites. You can hear the highway at night, but it’s not bothersome. Owners are very nice and are clearly passionate about the camping experience. Quiet hours are enforced. Group kitchen available if needed. Free showers, but we didn’t end up using them.
Came here September 30. Campground is quiet right now. End of season. Great place for people with RV's or tents. Bit of highway noise no matter where you are on the campground. Potable water everywhere. Shower houses, garbage, recycling everywhere. The kind sir at the office is a sweetheart. Only 10 min from town. Fireplace has a grill if you want to cook food on it. Highly recommend.
We spend 2 days in this campground. New owners put lots of effort to update this campground and as I had chat with Murray learned they will do more in future.. New showers, toilet and more tent sites will be arranged. We were at campsite #67, what was indeed quite close to the next camper and did not have trees and privacy however I have to point it out, I was lucky to score campsite before 3 days of September long weekend.. I am sure someone canceled Pros: Very clean bathrooms, also shower, flush toilets on site. At night to get even to pit toilet lights are helping to get there, inside even pit toilet has lights..very organized. Also all campsite has invidual power outlet don't forget your power cord also invidual water access!! You can have fire even when lot's of campgrounds are forbid them these days!!! summer is crazy dry and tons of wildfires Gated so quite secure, you get code to get in and out after hours. No parties and generators what we prefer..as we stayed in tent. Tents can be placed on grassy- soil area, much easier to put stakes in then gravel you just have to be careful when it's raining Owners are on site and very friendly. Dog friendly campground. We were happy with this campground and looking forward to visit again.
This is our third time staying here and we love it here, for a couple of reasons; it is not that far to go to Waterton, and the sites in the corner are very nice and out of the wind. They have free Wifi and Free showers which are well maintained and clean, the bathrooms are close also and well maintained and clean. They have nice walking paths. We have recommended this campsite to friends.
The camping spots are very narrow. The fire pits are situated next to the neighbour's vehicle parking spot. I do not feel comfortable Fortaleza lighting a fore just a few feet away from someone's vehicle. The washroom facilities are mediocre at best. I realize it is a camp ground, but it could use a lot of improvement.
This camp ground has several challenges, including: - it is way too crowded, and you really do not get any privacy. there aren't even enough parking spots for the walk-in tent sites, so you end up having to park on the grass in-between rv sites. - there are limited amenities IE no playground for kids, no field to hit around a volleyball, no modest trail to walk, etc.. - it is more expensive than even national park sites. in addition to the accommodation fee, booking fee and gst, there is also a camp fee. what is a camp fee? - perhaps this isn't as big an issue for others, but I don't really like tent sites that are full gravel. Would much prefer sandy soil or mulch or something akin. - there are hardly any trees. the tent area looks green from Google Maps' satellite view, but it is actually just brush. On the positive side, crooked creek is close to Waterton NP, so if all sites in the park are full, this provides an option. It is basically a place to sleep, and then you leave the whole day.
