Craig's Kitchen

This is someplace worth making the trip for. Step through the doors into an American diner styled paste white interior with minimal decor. You're served with plastic cutlery and fork, on a paper plate. Absolutely everything about the appearance is dull and unassuming. Maybe that's intentional too, because the food is far and beyond the best I've eaten of the style, and the environment allows you to focus on nothing but the amazing food coming out of the kitchen. The soul food isn't just decadent and warming, it's detailed and masterfully seasoned. Even the lighter options like the grilled chicken wrap I had was thoughtfully seasoned and balanced by just the right additions of cheese, spinach, and a sweet balsamic. Our first trip will certainly not be our last.

This hole in the wall was much needed in Vernon. Craig is amazing at what he does and his jerk chicken, collard green & rice and beans as good if not better than a Jamaican place in Hartford. I will be back this place is priced amazing and everything I’ve had has been awesome!

I so wanted to like this. The sides (beans&rice, collard greens) were very good. My blackened salmon was very over cooked and I needed a knife to cut it. I will probably go back to try some of their more typical soul food.

Great local soul food and breakfast, never a wait! Quaint setting, food served on paper plates! Try the smothered chicken with rice and red bean sauce.
