Cook County Assessor

Is this a joke?I've called the cook county assessors office on the 2nd of Jan 2018 to have an automated voicemail tell me that due to new years eve they are closed on january 1st and will be back on regular schedule from the 2th of Jan, immediately hanging up on me.

I called ahead for information on what I needed to do, and I came days later with all the information they required to submit my homeowner's exemption certificate of error application. I was turned away at the door by a rude gentleman handing out numbers. He interrupted me over and over again, never let me explain why I was there, insisted I needed my tax bill, and told me to leave. He gave me a ticket and told me to come back with my tax bill, which I did not need for the Homeowner's exemption. I immediately called and waited on hold for over 30 minutes before speaking to someone who was very helpful and apologized. She confirmed that I should have been allowed in without my tax bill. Overall I am giving this 2 stars only because of the helpful woman who helped resolve the situation over the phone. Needless to say, I wasted my time and my daycare money because of the customer service. I either need to go back on another day or complete everything through the mail. I hope the supervisor at this location can help improve the front end customer service soon. It is sad that my 2 star rating will actually improve their reviews.

These guys just refuse to pick up their phones. I think it is against the policy to pick up any calls at the county office..... Horrible.

Reps at this location like Art Perez was completely unhelpful for someone working at the Assessor's Office. My question to Art was what forms do I need to submit for the senior freeze and disability exemptions, as we need to submit these right away. He had no answers, and told me to call another number which led to a voicemail that was full. Thanks, Assessor's Office.
