Established in 1930, Connaught has changed hands many times, and location once. It's original location was on the corner of Connaught and King... hence the name.
Now located at the intersection of Main and Gage, Connaught has been under the same management since 1995.
But the history lesson doesn't stop there.
Connaught's current owners are third- generations fish n' chippers, using a handed- down family recipe for their light and crunchy batter that has stood the test of time.
Chips are traditional, fresh (never frozen) and hand cut.
Customers occasionally comment fondly on how much the taste and style reminds them of "just like I used to get, wrapped in newspaper, back in England.'
Well, we have dropped the newsprint (although quaint, it is not very practical) but we have tried to continue the tradition of good old-fashioned fish n' chips in every other way.
Our traditional offerings include Haddock, Halibut, White Roughy, Cod, and Alaskan Whitefish (subject to availability from our suppliers). We have also added other items to the menu to keep up with demand for summertime favourites, including fantastic hamburgers (fresh, never frozen, with NO fillers) and hotdogs, perfect fare to grab on the way to neighbouring Gage Park.:)
We thank all of our loyal customers for your support and business. Connaught would not still be in business, 85 years later, without you!
And to anyone who's wanted to give us a try, but hasn't yet... come on out!
