Great hockey barn about to be demolished after the Oilers hockey team moved to the new arena! Great memories of the games concerts etc.
This place has some special value; all of my first hockey games, concerts, etc. were in this building. I watched so many events, and had so many good times. That said, it has aged, and it isn't a very nice "modern" arena for concerts and sports. For a while, it had a secondary life of being a city rink where men's leagues played hockey, and it was fun. While the dressing rooms were small, you had to clear security to play, and the ice was only in so-so condition, it was fun to skate in the same building you had watched so many NHL games in. And the bar/kitchen was usually opened after games. Now the entire building is basically shuttered and waiting demolition. :
This is the worst place to go for any event. As an Edmontonion I have been here lots and every time I have been people have been either bear sprayed and or have been in major fights. This place has absolutely no safety protocols and absolutely no protection for the public. The safety here is not priority at all and these grounds should be closed down immediately! On July 31st 2022 todaymy girlfriend and I got bear sprayed on the last day of k days along with a bunch of other family's that were attending. Please do not come here for your family's safety.
Attending the CFR it is a great time. The only thing that I didn't like was the leg room. But that's old news for a place that's been around as long as rexall place. Glad to hear they are keeping the CFR in Edmonton for next year. The Rodeo is a blast best show ever:-
Expo was very small this year but still thankful for everything that was available, K-Days was way over priced the games where ludicrously expensive making it not even worth playing unless you just like throwing money away? But after a global pandemic it was very disheartening to see that throwing 2 balls costing $20. Basically why bother when you can buy the prizes for a fraction of the cost and honestly the games are not even fun, my 3 children certainly did not enjoy the boring games that cost so much money for a cheap stuffed toy that they didn't even care about they just wanted to try the games but when they realized the games are rigged it was crushing for a 4 year old and 7 year old, the rides are obnoxiously lame and you can spend an hour standing in a line to ride for less then 5 minutes, heck the little dragon roller coaster only did 2 loops taking less then 60 seconds after waiting like a half hour... they need to lower prices to make the games reasonable and add more rides to combat the growing attendees at these things, when you set up in a city with 1.3 million people you need more rides especially in a city that already has a year round indoor amusement park!!! Don't get me wrong I love K-Days but they need update, upgrade and get with the times!!!
Although this iconic building is no longer in use there is alot of history here , from the hundreds of concerts all the rodeos , klondike days events the oil king's failed in door soccer, lacrosse and of course the Edmonton Oilers and their dynasty the one set back was how northlands went into debt couldn't pay their bill's to the city , insanely over priced parking and horrible food and outrageously price beer wine and spirits time to move on the Roger's place and start again goodbye northlands
The coliseum, Northlands Coliseum, Skyreach Centre and Rexall Place whatever you knew it as is no more. It has been replaced by Rogers Place for a couple years and this building is no longer needed. More than likely it will be demolished. There is an amazing amount of history in this building from hockey championships to music concerts and everything in between. Sad to see it go but things change. I remember when the building was brand new and now it will be gone.
My first NHL game was in the building in 2010
It wasn't the best facility, in its later years, when compared to other NHL venues. However, the Northlands Coliseum held a special mystique, akin to the feeling you get when you're at the venues of other legendary teams. Looking at all of the banners, then looking around the seating bowl and at the ice sheet, I could almost imagine the cacophony and jubilation felt by Edmontonians during the dynasty years in the 1980s. I've been to over 20 NHL venues and, while the Northlands Coliseum was certainly dated by the time I first visited it, it still held wonder and excitement for this hockey fan.
Awsum experience..i recommend visiting this place...i loved all bareback, saddle Bronc, team roping, tie down roping, bull riding....
