The staff was super friendly but they couldn't provide some basic things. Room clean but missing furniture, could not be guaranteed coffee for the cleaning intervals 3 days, 3 bags of coffee. Pool, sauna, exercise room out of service, when asking for a plate and cutlery it came from a box of 100s not individually wrapped. Metal cutlery not an option. Overall felt very cheap.
Well I usually don't do reviews but this hotel needs to be blacklisted. The entrance is crumbling and looks awful. The smell in the lower hallways is rancid, the rooms are antiquated. The tv reception is fuzzy at best. The bathroom only provides Luke warm water and the shower curtain has black spots. The tiles are also crumbling with paint also peeling on the tub surround. There was also no plug for the bath. The plug for the sink is just a black mold garden! All in all you want to just keep driving and find another hotel that is a bit more updated.
We've loved this property in the past, but don't know what to think now. When we stayed here before it was just for a couple of nights, in a queen room with fireplace. It was amazing. When we checked out that time, the desk clerk mentioned that they also had fireplace rooms with jacuzzi tubs "for next time." Well, we were looking for a place to get away, hole up, relax, and be cozy for the last week of 2022. We remembered the Pinewood Park and the desk clerk's suggestion last time we were there, and booked a king room with fireplace and jacuzzi for five nights; we didn't check reviews or anything as we were going on our own previous experience. We made the booking three weeks in advance of our stay. We live in southwestern Ontario, so we spent several hours driving to get there and when we arrived were given a different type of room at check-in. My husband pointed out the discrepancy and was told that there are only two such rooms in the hotel; one was already occupied and the other had not yet been cleaned. He was told the proper room would be ready the next day and we could switch at that time. We were disappointed that the room we'd booked weeks in advance was not ready for us, but understand that everyone is short-staffed right now, people get sick, etc so we didn't fuss about it. The clerk offered to show my husband the room they'd put us in for the first night. When they got to the new room, the lights didn't work. They went back to the desk and the clerk switched us to a third room. Husband asked if the bill would be changed to reflect the different room type for the first night and the clerk agreed but seemed unsure about it. When we actually got to our "first night" room, the light switches there didn't work either, though I managed to grope my way around and turn on most of the lamps. Some outlets in the room didn't work, though, which left it very dark. We discovered bits of garbage in nooks and crannies snack wrapper, corn nuts, a pair of earbuds, the pipes screamed the whole time I tried to shower, and the water never fully warmed up, but we thought "Something came up, it's only one night, well get it all sorted in the morning." When check-out time came in the morning, Husband went down and asked how/when we go about switching rooms. The desk clerk just called for someone else to talk to him. Another man came and said that the room we'd booked would not be available for the entirety of our trip as the fireplace rooms were all out of order until someone could come clean the chimneys, and explained that the person who cleans the chimneys is away and will not return until next month. Now, we understand that clean chimneys are a safety issue and sometimes maintenance is necessary, but since we booked three weeks in advance it seemed to us that the hotel could have and should have contacted us at some point during the three week interval between booking and arrival to let us know that the type of room we'd booked would not be available. Husband asked what our options were and was told that we could stay in the room we were already in or cancel the rest of the stay. Ultimately we decided to cancel and gathered our things to check out. When we were checking out, Husband asked what the rate for the previous night was to be since we had a downgraded room. The price that the clerk told us was only ~5 dollars less than the price of our originally booked room. The clerk said that was $30 off from what his system said the downgraded room's price should be. When Husband started looking for the email with our original booking confirmation to show him that the higher grade room we'd booked had cost the same amount he was now asking for, the clerk reduced the offer to be that amount including the tax. We agreed to that and left, scrambling to find another nice, last-minute place to spend our vacation. We are not sure whether we'll give Pinewood another chance or not.
Stayed here over the weekend. I like the easy access to snowmobile trails, but the hotel itself is in desperate need of updates/ repair. I think it was clean, but the aged decor made it feel dark and dingy. Our door chain lock was broken, and the dead bolt also had to be fiddled with to use. The staff was friendly and courteous.
When I arrived there was a grey squirrel sitting on a chair in the front lobby. The front desk did not seemed concerned when I mentioned the wildlife issue. This hotel was once the best place to stay/eat in North Bay. 30 years ago. Now it is tired, run-down and poorly maintained/managed. TV's are linked to a low definition cable signal that is horrible. It's like watching TV in the 1970's. Thick ice covered the front steps. I saw a guest tell the staff to fix it. Knock it down and build a new hotel! Never going back to this dump.
The room was clean staff friendly it took 30 minutes to get hot water the first morning but second morning right away there was a group of kids on the second day running the halls running into are door this was at 10.30 pm never complained but should of but other then rhat it was good Rooms: Rooms were clean alot of room
I like the extra private entrance & patio table & chairs to relax outside the room. Golf course behind hotel is nice to walk around on side path even if one doesn't play golf/sit & watch on benches here & there. The bed & pillows are decent, soundproof-generally one doesn't hear hallway traffic only occasionally when someone slams the exit door. Didn't have time to check out the heated outside pool, exercise room and attached restaurant it seemed closed while I was there. I noticed another thoughtful amenity- a washer & dryer for guest use. small cons: could use a power bar at least at bedside table for charging so one doesn't have to unplug the lamp. Not sure if I knew how to set the AC/fan-it could have been cooler. Bath tub/shower room had some paint chips or maybe construction material on tile floor. other pros: Room 130 contained microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, which was much appreciated. Staff are nice. Close to Callander beach.
Hotel is very run down. Outdated rooms that stink of air freshener and cigarette smoke. Mould in the shower. Room not properly cleaned. Hallways that are over powering with cheap air fresheners. Broken and stained ceiling tiles and stained carpets. The excessive use of air fresheners was so bad it gave some of my family headaches. I wasn't expecting a lot from this place and even it still fell far short. Would not recommend this place.
i just cancelled my booking. no way i am giving business to a company that intentionally ignores fire safety and risks all families and their lives. how can a guest sleep in peace ever again?
Welcome to the Ramada yikes, they let you use their name? by Wyndham noone from 'Wyndham' has ever stayed a night here Pinewood Park Resorta resort in the same way that East Side Marios is a italian culinary experience where you can enjoy a dated design, rock hard beds and a lack of cleanliness that screams about how much we care about you having a nice stay. OK, you don't offer complimentary breakfast, but would it not make sense to offer up a carafe of grab and go coffee in the lobby instead of stale coffee in a tiny coffee maker in each room. Free Wi-fi. Great! Except its painfully slow, unreliable and it boots you off the gateway after 24 hours, so make sure to log back in when your connection drops off at an inconvenient time tomorrrow. Every. Single. Day. Maybe give a weekly code to any guest condemned to stay with you for WEEKS. My experience with the front desk left me wishing for the days when it seemed like hotel staff cared about trying to make guests experience enjoyable. I get it, staffing is a challenge, but where is the management? The training? There was a large celebration here in the event space 3 days ago, and the parking lot remains strewn with garbage I get to look at every time I return to my home away from home. Their website lists a year round outdoor pool and sauna as amentities but rest assured, the pool closed in October, and the Sauna is mothballed. The gym does not look to have been given a thought since late 2008 and I NOPED out after giving it a glance. It looks like I would have my bloated corpse found keeled over an exercise bike weeks after my disappearance. Just remove these 'Amentities' from your marketing and literature if you aren't investing in your guests ability to enjoy them. I hope I never have occasion to return to this best-forgotten wasteland.
