Sault Ste. Marie was incorporated as a City in 1912, although the rich history of the Sault dates back to the 1600's. With an ethnically diverse history, we take pride in our past - which is shown in our buildings, streets, landmarks, museums, and parks. Since the city's establishment, it has produced a number of leaders in business, science, sport, and arts.
Our 'Naturally Gifted' slogan speaks to the 75,000 residents in the community, as well as the beautiful landscapes in our area. Sault Ste. Marie is privileged with various cultural institutions to appease the interests of any visitor or resident.
Situated at the hub of the Great Lakes along the banks of the St. Marys River, our city is an international port of entry to the United States. We pride ourselves on the unique charm of the community and are known as being the 'Friendliest City in Algoma'.
