As a former L.E. Officer, now working Hospital Security, I see what types of people the local cops are bringing into our Emergency Rooms. Most folks wouldn't open their doors, or would cross the street to avoid said types that the average Cops deal with on a daily basis.
The all too often unacknowledged traits of Great Cops occur often while you sleep. Hmmm, wonder where the press was on this one? I digress.
Recently EAGLE POLICE DEPUTIES brought in an educated man to our E.R., who had "shot up the place" so to speak. (OK, literally) What had occurred in Eagle was basically as follows; Once the police arrived at the shots fired call, the resident/shooter exited with gun in hand! It was readily apparent that this shooter wanted to be suicided by the Cops. That night, the responding Cops probably could've justifiably shot the resident/shooter likely resulting in his demise. It would've been a clean shoot by all accounts! But these Cops, where Great Cops that night.
You see, Great Cops think! Great Cops run scenario after scenario in their training and thoughts throughout nearly every day, on or off duty. Just so they can “do it right” should that shoot or don’t shoot situation present itself-always w/o notice.
Let me tell you about what these Great Cops did, which hopefully will be recognized as a gift by the shooter’s loved ones. These Great Cops recognized the disposition of the shooter’s handgun (details omitted), quickly determined that surrender was possible-and an arrest was made w/o Cops resorting to justifiable Homicide. This my friends is referred to as restraint… Again, they could’ve shot this guy, but ultimately they know their job is to STOP the dangerous situation, even if it means standing in harm’s way to see if it goes their way. As one Cop said to me, “that’s not what it’s about…” as we discussed the use of deadly force.
Thank you Eagle Police Deputies Johnson and McEachern, as well as assisting Deputies for being Great Cops, not average cops that night. To Chief Calley and his force, thanks for what you guys do and for the Great Actions by these Great Cops that night!

I trust and support the Eagle Police. Their tough on crime, except when it comes to me; and that's just how I like it!
