Poor quality work. Big bumps and divits in wall. Tape seems visible. Refused to fix work.

I have debated on whether or not to write this review however, every time I look at my ceiling I am reminded of the work they did on my house. Here is the story: I had a popcorn ceiling (that had fortunately not been painted and was easy to remove) and wanted a knockdown put up to match the walls. He came over and gave us a bid that was in line with our budget. We did have a deadline and while he said it would be tough he could do it. Initially we were going to have bare floors for him to work with but our flooring installer had time constraints and thus they were installed prior to the ceiling work. I advised him of this in advance of him coming out so there would not be a surprise. He said it would take longer due to masking and such. I agreed for an additional 200 dollars to be paid him for extra drop cloths and supplies to cover the floors. I came to the house at the time they were to start and decided I wanted a smooth ceiling and not a textured one. He didn't really want to do this as he said it would show all the imperfections. I agreed some of them might be visible but small dings and such were easily fillable. He said he would do it and then use a heavier textured roller to help hide some others. He said the butt joints would be most visible. I returned after day one and was horrified. My brand new distressed hardwood floors in a dark java color were covered in a wet pasty film from the ceiling removal. I called him and asked him why the floors were in this condition as I had paid him what he requested for the extra tarps. His reply was that popcorn removal is a messy job. I was furious that he was so casual about the potential damage to my flooring. There is no excuse to do that to a customer's home. It is the result of sloppy work. I came back a couple days later to pay up and see the finished work. I pointed out how the seams were visible, and not only were they visible but the edges were unsanded and rough. The butt seams were great, it was the long tapered seams that were the standout. Again, no real excuse for this as room was provided in the manufacture of the panels to create a smooth finish. And why the rough, unsanded edges? Poor quality. I paid him his money and he left. Within a few weeks two areas of the drywall split and cracked. I was tied up with work in and out of town but we did finally hook up almost a year later. He said he would not do anything about the rough edges because in his words he lost money on the job. He said he would patch the two cracks. One of his workers did this but the workmanship was so bad it turned out wavy and lumpy. Both places have cracked again. I can appreciate the fact that if he lost money on a job the incentive to redo some of your work is diminished. However, in my eyes he is the contractor who is supposed to know his job. An error in bidding either needs to be addressed up front and negotiated or the job needs to be completed with professional results. This is where character and integrity come into play. I would never recommend them to anyone and would encourage you to look around for other bids. Two other items of note are this: 1. When I came in the night after the removal they had not removed all the popcorn from the ceiling in one room. The heavy stuff they had knocked off but left layers of the coating still attached. This would have resulted in a lumpy ceiling if it were left. I spent a couple hours there and removed it including buildup around the fixtures. 2. After the job was finished there was paint and mud spider cracks in every room where the ceiling joins the walls and paint over spray on doors, fixtures and trim. The cracks I can only assume we're from using too much joint compound and the trying to paint it while it was still damp. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because of their willingness to take on this job and work within a short timeframe. Aside from this the work was deplorable.
