When I first discovered Chubbi Rice, it was merely by luck - I was scrolling through Instagram when their ad popped up - and boy am I glad it did! I decided to order their Valentine's day special of their chocolate ganache daifuku mochi and fell in love at the first bite. Chewy texture and the chocolate ganache filling was rich and decadent with the ripe strawberry to finish off and giving a bright tangy contrast. I recommend stopping by one of their pop ups and picking up a batch of mochi - they have different flavors and you won't be disappointed!
The wait for a proper and fruity Daifuku spot in GTA is finally over! I ordered some Tiramisu Daifuku and they got devoured in an instant well you're supposed to eat them on the same day so... Overall the Daifuku is very delightful and balanced in flavour, it has the right amount of sweetness, texture, and layers. The chocolate mochi has a light chocolate flavour. It is soft, bouncy, and not sticky. The Tiramisu filling is flavourful and you can taste the layers of mascarpone cheese, rum, coffee, and ladyfingers without them overpowering one another. The strawberry on top goes really well with the Daifuku when you eat them together. The best part for me is that the whole Daifuku just melts in your mouth without leaving leftovers, as I have braces so I don't have to worry about the messiness. Chubbi is a small local family business run by Tracy and her mom. The mochi are usually ordered on their website for pickup and new batches come out every two weeks for each location DT/Markham. The menu is always changing with interesting seasonal flavours and limited availability. The mochi do get sold out quickly sometimes so it's better to follow the Instagram page for the latest updates. The only downside is that since the Daifuku are freshly made and perishable, you can only order for the amount that you're going to eat on the same day. The two weeks wait for another good Daifuku do feel like an eternity . P.S. Love the brand and package design too!
Got this for valentine's day and I must say it is one of the best mochis I've had! The best way to describe it is that it taste like chocolate covered strawberries. It is just the perfect amount of sweetness and the strawberry was so fresh. I would definitely come back again!
Best mochi in Toronto! I love the rotation of innovative flavours every month
