I go there a few times a month with my son. It's a charming library with lots of very kind staff and nice littl collection of books. It has a large kids area with tons of books and activities. Regular small events are fun and engaging for young and old. Lots of computers, no barriers to internet access. Cafe with board game, magazine, and puzzle areas, movies, 3D printer, much more I probably haven't discovered yet.
It is a lovely place it was a little loud but nice the cafe is really nice upstairs there is a thing called a quiet pod and you can charge anything in there and it is open till 8:30 so if you need a book last minute just go to the Chatham Kent library and the quiet pod when you take nobody can here you so it is nice to relax and do work and other stuff so if you are looking for I good nice library you should come here.
Great library. Love the café. I found it difficult to find a quiet place to sit with a laptop and be able to plug in. Apparently all the laptop accessible tables are on the 2nd floor. It was rather noisy in the café.
I will start off by saying this library has a good selection of books and very nice & helpful staff. I recently decided to get a library card to take my daughter and she absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, I’m not planning to return. Just a few months after getting the library card, a book that I 100% returned was showing that it was overdue. I contacted the library immediately after noticing where I was informed that it had 6 months to be returned or to show up in circulation or I would be responsible for paying the purchase price for the book. A few months after the missing book incident I was at the library picking out new books with my daughter when I overhead a conversation between the librarian and a student who was reshelfing books and the student did not even know her alphabet. So I know exactly what happened to the book I DID return it and it was not put back in its proper spot and now it can’t be found. I understand that it does happen where people wreck books or don’t return books but it’s super frustrating when you are a careful and honest person and still get penalized. I paid the bill because what else am I supposed to do? This situation has stressed me out and if I’m going to have to pay for books I didn’t lose I will just purchase books for my little library at home.
*The variety of books for kids are okay. *A lot of really old books that they should get rid of. They should also buy more newer books that are relatable for kids nowadays.n*Most staff are friendly and helpful.n>>>The thing that REALLY bothers me about their system is that they tell you kids books are never overdue because they keep getting automatically renewed again and again. Well then they immediately start putting an outstanding balance on your library card if you don't return the books right away. They also send you threatening letters in the mail saying they will put you in bad credit if you don't return books or pay outstanding $ immediately.nnThis all in the matter of 2-3 months of books being take out. I get they have a system to follow but why the threatening e-mails and letters? Why not just say you can't take out more book until books are returned or outstanding balance is paid??????nThese threatening letters in the mail cause people anxiety and need to STOP!nI used to love taking my kids to the library when we lived out of town. Now it just seems too stressful in Chatham because as soon as a kids book is late or overdue I start getting anxiety to bring it back before I start getting harassed.nDo better Chatham Library!
