Station is great. Ticket kiosk takes credit card, two kiosks one on either side of the elevator. Poorly signed - Google says to take the Capital train, but the train says Clareview. The transit station map is on the train, but the map on the platform is confusing and useless.
Are you accessibility impaired? Have any physical limitations? This terminus station reinforces Edmonton's attitude to you - uncaring. Today, both the escalator and the elevator are down on the station side. With tens of thousands of travelers daily, the south end of the bus platform provides two benches and one shelter - a total of maybe 8 seats. When weather is poor, the main shelters are standing room only, especially since they converted space that could hold maybe a hundred people into the most inefficient bicycle lockup imaginable, with space for maybe ten bikes. Travel in the early morning or late evening during winter or bad weather, and you will experience CP doubling as a homeless center, unsafe injection site and public washroom. All this, and the maddening knowledge that with just a hint of thought, it doesn't have to be this way.nMy bus drivers tend to be great, no complaints about ETS staff.
Expect to spend a lot of time here if the LRT is on the fritz
Easy to navigate with frequent bus services.
We purchased ARC Card for riding the Edmonton Transit Service ETS buses or LRT before.nnThere are no ticket gates and it operates on an open fare system. People need to tap their cards at the entry and exit validators.nnThe LRT doors do not open automatically, so people have to press the button to open the door. This may not be convenient, but it could keep the LRT warmer during winter. It was more safety too. Because people could keep alert when someone open the door each time.nnI found that the LRT passengers were very quiet, just similar to Japan.nnAlso, people have to tap their cards both when getting on and off the bus.nnOne time, a senior lady got on and the bus driver was very patient, he was making sure she was seated before start to drive. It was very considerate.nnWhen we didn't have a private car, we bought an ARC Card, similar to an Octopus, which we could use to ride Edmonton Transit Service ETS buses or LRT.nnThere are no gates here; instead, you scan your card at a gate, similar to the Hong Kong Light Rail. The difference is that the train doors don't open automatically, so you have to press the latch on the side of the door every time you get on or off. This is a bit inconvenient, but on the other hand, it's more environmentally friendly and keeps you warm in cold weather. It also seems safer, as the doors aren't constantly open, and you can be alerted every time someone opens or closes them.nnI've taken the LRT several times, and I've always felt that the passengers are very quiet, a bit like Japanese trains.nnOn buses, you scan your card every time you get on and off. I remember once when an elderly passenger boarded a bus, the driver patiently waited until she was seated before driving off. Very considerate.
