Hi James! Thank you for your great hospitality yesterday. I warmed up the pockets and Carribean/Jamaican lasagna thing this morning at the B&B where I am staying. They were all great My boyfriend liked the veggie pocket the most, and I liked the salted fish and the fruit one the most. The lasagna was very similar to what we have in Canada, but the creaminess of the cheese compliments well with the veggies inside!! Thank you again and we will definitely come back when we visit Victoria.
This place has a slightly run-down homey vibe. It's different, and that might not sit well with "proper" people, but I like it. Owner is quite friendly, but he is more of the strong silent type I feel. He let's his food do the talking, and boy does it shout! A hearty plate of jerk chicken, rice and beans, and a tangy slaw. So delicious! The meat patties are great too. Don't forget to wash your meal down with a bottle of VitaMalt. I'll keep coming back.
Stumbled upon this cute litte hole in the wall while visiting Victoria, BC. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate & Salt Fish & Ackee Patty. Omgoodness, the chicken was fall off the bone tender & the Jerk sauce was bursting with flavour. It tasted like it had been simmering for hours, as the flavours were so well developed. It had a nice kick of heat to it without being too spicy. The Vegetable Curry & Spanish Rice side dishes were well seasoned while not overpowering, allowing the Jerk Chicken to really shine. The Salt Fish & Ackee Patty, was delicious. Not pictured, we also ordered 2 Chicken Patties which our son said was delicious. We also took a few cookie sandwiches to go & oh my they were so good! James, the chef & I'm guessing owner, was a lovely host who treated us with great hospitality. He gave us complementary chutney, claiming it was the best chutney & he wasn't wrong. It truly was delicious & a wonderful accompaniment to our meal. This place is a little off the beaten path & not in the touristy area of Victoria, however, it's definitely worth checking out. It's probably the best Caribbean food I've had outside of the Caribbean & I was married to a Bajan man for almost 20 years, whose mom & Aunties are amazing cooks! @inspiringfoodie
The food is just amazing. And love the natural set up
My wife and I tried this place yesterday and we were fairly disappointed. Paid over 40 dollars for 2 jerk chicken meals but we got hardly any chicken. It seems like they buy the cheapest cut of meat and charge you top dollar. They looked like thighs but I think they were the backs, there was maybe 3 forks worth of chicken per meal. I left actually quite hungry. The spice was ok but it was just spice sauce they covered the chicken with. I've had real jerk chicken where they actually cook the chicken in the sauce. I don't like writing bad reviews but it seemed like a fairly big waste of money. Not to mention we had to wait 10 - 15 minutes to order because they forgot about us. I should rate them lower then 3 stars but I don't want to hurt a small business
Very good patties. We had curried chicken and curried beef. I’m hoping he will do a pre-order of a few dozen for my kids/partners lunches. Love this neighbourhood and supporting local businesses.
I’ve always wanted to try this place. While waiting for a bus I could smell the delicious aromas. I ordered 6 samosas or whatever they’re called while waiting he gave me soup to try which was delicious!! Definitely will go back 5+*
Although authentic, this restaurant was dirty. There was old food stuck on the cutlery and long hairs on the table, and the food looked and tasted old. Overall just has a grubby vibe. Not to mention, the owner was quite rude and insulted a friend of mine. We were just trying to have a nice night out!
What a disgusting place. Walked in hoping to enjoy some Carribean food and was so disappointed. Chicken was not clean and still had feathers on it and was cooked only on the outside . Rice was almost rotten . Unfortunately I had the food to go for my partner and hence I knew about it later when she came home. It's unbelievably unhygenic. All of that food went to garbage. What a waste of time and money for rotten food. Please don't scam people calling this Carribean food. Many of us have actually visited the Carribean islands and we know how the food tastes like.
Great little place with by far the best Jerk Chicken on the island!!! Wow! James the proprietor is an awesome friendly fellow and talented chef! Lots of fresh baking daily, tasty treats and great menu, an excellent place to buy Caribbean soft drinks as well as traditional Caribbean favourites! If you are on the island take the time to visit this place, you will not be disappointed!
