This restaurant is the reason people of ALL cultures LOVE Jamaican food. Before "Sunrise", before "Willies" and before "Ackee Tree". A Mississauga landmark for over 27 years. Those who know, know it as "GRANNIES". Recipes and flavors that crossed oceans and land. A true gem. Food made with true love and unflinching tradition. I ate here as a young man, and now my own kids enjoy the same tastes and home style flavors I enjoyed in my youth. It's truly a beautiful thing. PEACE and LOVE
This restaurant should really improve on their customer service it is atrocious. The day I went in I called before going and the person the phone did not assist me in a polite manner nor were they forthcoming with information I needed for the purchase. After arriving at the restaurant after being told on the phone soup will be ready in half and hour when I got there it was not and I had to wait an additional 1/2 hr. When I got home with the soups and food it was not goat meat as indicated but tripe very undercooked I had to throw all 3 away. I will not be returning to this restaurant
I'm mad I didn't read Glows review before going here! ... I couldn't eat it either
Went to this place after seeing the reviews. I was really feeling for West Indian food for dinner, oxtail specifically. I spent $25.00 for two oxtail dinners for my husband and I. I came home and open both dinners to see that we only received 4 pieces of oxtail. FOUR. For a large serving and they only provided 4 four pieces. I feel so robbed. You try and support businesses like this and this is what they do. My gawd. I will not return. As for the taste of the food, the steamed veggies smelled like hospital food. I gagged and didn’t even attempt to eat it so I can’t rate the taste. The rice and peas was bland, no flavour to it at all. The 4 pieces of oxtail tasted ok. It was not bad but it was not mouth-watering like good oxtail can be. I’ve had better. Even if I had 8 pieces of oxtail, the dinner wasn’t good enough for me to go back. I’m convinced the people who have left a 5 star rating haven’t bothered to eat at this place or they’re just doing a friend a favour to bump up the rating.
Truly a historic restaurant... originally Grannies, that's where I was introduced to jerk for the first time... not only a restaurant but a foundation of the community... I would know, as I was a part of it for over 2 decades!
Great experience. The food was amazing, would definitely go back.
The Rice and Peas and stem veges were fresh, The Jerk chicken was 100% left overs from a previous day, it was hard and dry. Server wasn't very friendly, not rude but dosent look happy to be there.
Been going here for since I was a child and have never once been disappointedFood: 5/5
First time trying out the C-Rush. I love jerk chicken. Always my choice of dish at any Caribbean take out. It’s tough to find a really good place and after reading all the reviews thank you all I give this place a four star rating since there is not an option for 3.5. My reason the sauce was great, the lady who served me was pleasant, she was happy to provide me EXTRA ox tail gravy over my rice and chicken. The rice and peas was perfect. Can’t go wrong with rice. I love coleslaw served with my dish, but they serve cooked vegetables-shredded cabbage and carrots. I love cabbage so I didn’t mind the side that was included. However, the chicken was a bit dry just glad she gave me the extra sauce. Overall, I had a good experience and enjoyed the flavours.
Not from Mississauga but I was in the area and was craving Caribbean food. Read the good reviews andy friend recommended it. Great decision. The food had excellent taste and flavor. The Jerk chicken with rice a peas with oxtail sauce was delicious! I'll definitely go back even though I live outside of the area.
