Carey Cottage Inn

Like being in a Thomas kinkade painting. Surrounded by antiques and beautiful things you are only a little over a block from the main amphitheater at the Chautauqua institute. The maid service and staff are wonderful and will go out of their way to help you. The rooms are great. The rates are reasonable; and if you don't feel like walking the trams run right out front. I have been here twice in the last four years and will definitely return.

You will love this place if you yearn to relive the surroundings and comforts of the 1950s. Everything is old, old, old. Everything. The worst of it is easily corrected. The coffee in the morning is made in a brewer you would buy for home use and the grade of the coffee is bad. Absolutely terrible. Carey Cottage needs a renovation unless management's intention is to stay in the 50s. Even so, new mattresses and bedding are sorely needed. God knows how old the mattresses are. Old and uncomfortable. The good part, the staff is helpful and friendly. Chautauqua with its great goals of art, music, and learning is a fine place for wealthy liberals. All others are tolerated though. Why, as the tour guide said, "they even welcomed Catholics long ago". Hmmm? Paid for 4 nights, left after the first.

Lovely old fashioned styled inn on the historic Chattaqua Insitution on Chattaqua Lake. Comfortable room on a quiet street just a few minutes walk from most central events and the beautiful lake.
