Camp Sullivan

About

One of five new or revitalized campgrounds opened by the Forest Preserves of Cook County in 2015.

Story

An iconic red barn greets visitors to Camp Sullivan, where large groups can rent bunkhouses and families will soon be able to enjoy tent camping tucked within the beautiful 612-acre Tinley Creek Woods. With access to more than 13 miles of trails, Camp Sullivan is a perfect destination for nature exploration and group gatherings. Even the barn, with a climbing wall and other adventures, is a hub of activity.

Friendly and helpful staff, close to Chicago 32 min by car, clean, no loud party people. Site #2 This review would be five stars except there was no water when we arrived, none of the sinks were working in the bathrooms and the shared utility sink didn’t even have a faucet. When staff tried to help us get water from a locked utility room, an alarm was set off that called the fire department. Very exciting. By the end of the next day the utility sink had a new faucet and was working great. Still no water in the bathroom sinks but the showers worked and were lovely.
Nice place for Scouts for March " Urban Campout". Sleep in Comfort and visit the city proper during the day. Nice Fire Ring & great kitchen facilities.
Winter Exploration Day with a hike and if there's enough snow, snowshoeing. We built a fire, had smores, made nature crafts, and storytelling. Camp Sullivan is a great place to get away from the busy life and relax, but you can drive a mile or two down the road and be back in the city limits. I suggest making reservations NOW if you're trying to get a cabin or camping and RV spot for the summer. They host a lot of family reunions and scouts! Ha e fun!!
Had a Lovely Time reconnecting with the Summer Sounds of Nature from my childhood... Awesome campground in the middle of Chicagoland in what has unfortunately turned into a campground desert...
Awesome time camping over the weekend. Our group was right by the pavilion so we had convenient access to electrical outlets, plenty of seating and it was lit at night. The bathroom was very clean and warm! We used the tents available for rental at the site and they were great. It was raining a few times over the weekend and I had no leaks or problems. I definitely plan to camp more
Great location 35 minutes from the city. The pricing is great. Spent the entire weekend here with 30 family members. Has exactly what you need. Nothing more, nothing less. Rock climbing included and fun. Staff took a little bit of time to warm up to us, they were not friendly from the start, but warmed up to us and were good.
I humbly have changed my mind about my original review of this establishment. Initially I was very upset about some things with this campground and its night staff. The night beforehand's trouble, it seemed, was not directed at me, but I was caught in the crossfire of another situation unfolding at a different bunkhouse. However after a pleasant conversation with the lady on the overnight shift on the second night, she was actually very understanding and accommodating. Which is great because I do actually enjoy being here. Still a bit expensive, and I wish there were more amenities within the small cabin, but the convenience of it being so close to the Gaelic Park facility where I am working an event, is unbeatable. So I'm changing my review from 1 star to 4. Cheers
This campground is a green in the middle of suburbia. Lots of land and the sites are not too close together. The restrooms/showers were very clean. The staff is friendly and they had programming on the weekend - a bumblebee talk, an afternoon hike and a bonfire with music. They brought out instruments guitars, drums and let us play. It was a great weekend!
We stayed at the Camp Sullivan campgrounds on the night of July 3rd. The park itself was beautiful. However, the tent "accessible" camping was only accessible in that you could park next yo your tent. The ground was extremely uneven and I almost fell multiple times. There was also hardly enough room for the tent and the car and our tent was on a very noticeable slope. I'm guessing that if you don't need the camp to be accessible it would be a great place to camp.
Was not prepared for the tent sites being away from the car, and could hear a lot of road traffic, but the climbing wall was fun and the foliage around our site was lunch. Pack the bug repellant and a hammock!
