Helpful and friendly staff make the hard moments so much easier to deal with. They helped me accomplish filing legal matters properly and as timely as they could, whether it is a line up of a few or many. I appreciate the information, empathy, and patience with explaining and re-explaining things to me and all the assistance over the last few visits.
I was called in for jury duty today. 600+ of us all crammed into the hallway with the elevators trying to get processed by 4 people. Tremendously understaffed to the point of being a safety hazard.nI suggest adding half a dozen tables on the main floor or some on a few different levels with clearly marked signs to expedite the process for safer clearer hallways.nnEveryone was nice. I’m giving it such a low rating so maybe this can be brought to the attention of people who budget and organize these things. Maybe they’ll see it?
Very nice court. Sentenced for 4 years. Reduced my sentence from 5 years. Very good will come again. Because of my bald boyfriend who own night club , my husband fought with him. I told judge to arrest both.
After visiting in person, I can confirm that people were friendly and helpful! They also have a law library with computers and printers. I was very impressed overall!nLucia at the phone number provided was so respectful and helpful! As someone out of province trying to make a claim in Alberta, it’s super helpful to be able to ask questions without going to the courthouse directly!
My experience with the Juror Summons process: The form said to be there by 8:15am. I understood that getting through security and registering can take 30 mins, so I got there about 7:40. Because I was early, it maybe took 15-20 minutes.nnNow, I had time to get a coffee downstairs and sat for 30 mins. When I got back upstairs, I could barely get off the elevator - the halls were jam-packed over 670 people . Because I was already registered, I could walk past them all and grab a seat in the courtroom FYI - no coffee allowed inside the courtroom.nnIt took an hour to get everyone settled and start. 20-30 mins of process explaining.nnWe found out that there were originally 6 trials that needed jurors... luckily, now down to 1 trial a 1 wk trial starting Monday , they need 12 jurors plus 2 backup jurors. Another few mins to describe the nature of the trial and key players i.e., accused, victim, witness, and lawyer names in case you knew someone and needed to be excused for that reason.nnWe were randomly called up in groups of 12, and each person was asked of their willingness to serve or reason for exclusion.nIt took 3 groups of 12 to get their 14 jurors. We were done by 11:30 am. and released.nnI gather that this was an unusually large group of jurors for them. Maybe typically 100-120 per trial??
