Visiting from Squamish. First time at this gym. Beautiful place! Large range of grades, I think the lowest I saw was 5.3. The staff member who helped me do my belay check was very kind and made it an enjoyable experience. Very approachable and helpful staff. Will definitely be coming to a Calgary climbing Center gym again.
Staff is friendly and inviting. Music is usually good. I find they keep routes up for too long sometimes but I can always keep myself busy. The bouldering section they seem to rotate often though. They just added tripods to record yourself which is a great idea.
Lots of various routes and options. Not the tallest walls but still great. Small store w climbing related clothes and gear. You can spend hours here. Bouldering area was really cool last time I was there. Go!
Would not recommend for daily bouldering. The holds were greasy, it looked like they maybe cycled out routes on a 5-6 week basis. It was also very warm and humid inside, and I went on a cold day. Would recommend going to Bolder instead.
This place is fantastic the staff are all really friendly and our instructor Micheal did an awesome job on teaching us how to belay and tie proper knots I conquered my fear of heights and falling today at this place! Thank you Calgary Climbing Centre you guys are the best!!!
I've been coming to this gym for almost six years now because it's a fantastic gym to be apart of. The community of climbers is super positive and I've made several good friends here, many of which I've later climbed with in the Bow Valley. At this location, the staff are always friendly and helpful when you have any questions or concerns. They have fairly good knowledge of the products available to purchase and can make good recommendations. Here the route setting is really top notch. They cycle through new sections every week so it never gets too old as there is often new problems to complete. Lots of diversity in difficulty for all sorts of climbers, too. If you are looking for more roped climbing I would check out the Rocky or Hangar locations as the walls are much taller and more spread out. I stick to Chinook for primarily bouldering. The only downside of this gym is it can get pretty busy at peak times. Weekend in the days or weekdays early evening. However usually later in the evening it's got space to breathe. If you're trying to get into the sport or try something new with some buddies, I'd highly recommend stopping by the CCC
This review is from the eyes of a first time beginner. Majority of staff felt friendly/courteous, but a couple not so much. I did the beginner's course and it was very instructive and fun but I recommend bringing a partner along for best experience. It seems climbing is very popular with the 20's and under demographics, the gym was quite crowded.
Nice facility with lots of options for different difficulties. One Employee left a bad impression, I'm fairly new at climbing but they acted more antagonist than helpful. I wasn't aware you can't belay unless you take their course and instead of offering to teach even for a fee they just told us to stop. Did not feel as though they wanted us to return and that's an odd way to run a business. Another long haired employee was more friendly and I hope more staff take after their lead, they are the reason I gave more than 1 star.
Nice place if you enjoy climbing. Staff is friendly and they change courses regularly.
Takes good advantage of the space that it has. Plenty of overhang bouldering and a whole wall's worth of top-roping / lead climbing, which is the main attraction. Solid training areas and a few weights / bars if that's your kind of thing. Has most everything you'd want in a climbing gym, but cannot compare to the purpose-built Rocky Mountain location.
