I highly recommend Afternoon Tea. Reservation only. Outdoor tables on the porch are only available at your reservation time by availability. I was surprised how good the tea and nibbles were at this highly popular tourist destination. Definitely one of the best I've experienced. You must pay the $38/person entrance fee for Butchart Gardens in order to enjoy Afternoon Tea, which is an additional charge. If you haven't enjoyed afternoon tea before, it might seem expensive, but it includes a pot of tea and a three tier tray filled with a scone, savory finger sandwiches, and dainty treats. At Butchart's, they begin with a sweet trifle, which was unbelievably tasty. The conservatory setting and the dining room are quite lovely, but I recommend going early if the weather is fine and requesting a porch table. All have views of flowers. Our waitress Dakota was attentive and charming and created a beautiful experience for us that fulfilled my expectations. So worth the expense and time. You can also order wine at an additional charge.
We came here for our anniversary and it was phenomenal! The ambiance is so bright and beautiful. It's like eating in a greenhouse. The food was incredible, and our server was so lovely. She brought us extra tea because I wasn't sure what flavour I liked, and she recommended a really nice Italian place for us to eat supper as well. She said "you'll thank me later" so if she's reading this, thank you!!! We also really loved enjoying our tasting flights of local wine and cider all cozy next to the fire whilst we waited for our table to be ready. This was absolutely magical and I dearly hope we have the chance to come back someday. Vegetarian options: They have a whole vegetarian and even a vegan tea! Dietary restrictions: I have a peanut allergy and this wasn't an issue at all.
After tea at the Empress, I actually prefer tea at Butchart gardens. Held in the original residence of the family, the house overlooks the Italian garden on one side and the square near the entrance to the sunken gardens. There are multiple rooms but I reccomend the original dining room overlooking the Italian garden if possible, as the other main room doesn't have much of a view and overlooks the small garden in the front of the house. We had quite frankly a spectacular view overlooking the Italian garden and was probably the best seat in the house. The tea and food were excellent and I liked the more casual atmosphere, since guests were to be trooping in from their tours of the gardens. Definitely make a reservation, its not to be missed.
Gorgeous atmosphere! Reasonably priced for a real tea service. Tasty variety. Great waiter. Only one choice for tea service. Tea itself was very lovely and can be purchased in gift store if you want to purchase and take it home. Fresh gorgeous flower arrangements from the gardens throughout, even in the bathroom.
The Christmas holiday ambiance was magical, the serving and hosting service was great and people tried hard to please, unfortunately for the price point the food quality falls really short. A $50 steak should not taste recently defrosted, it should be fresh and locally sourced and lacked any flavour. Do not have high expectations for food quality for dinner and you’ll be fine. The wait staff tried really hard to please and it’s not their fault the food failed. Next year we might just grab a snack and check out the lights vs having a full on dinner at the dinning room. Having said all this, their high tea which we have had previously is a great deal, and lot more care and food quality appears to go into that. This place is accessible, however the mens bathroom is a tight squeeze when using the urinal
The afternoon tea set was not worth it. Tea was the best part of the entire set. The cakes, scones, desserts were overpriced. Didn't taste any blue cheese in the sandwich they said it had blue cheese. Good for watching views and having some Ins photos though.
We had a fantastic time at the dining room. They didn't use tea bags, but loose leaf tea. The taste of their afternoon tea is unforgettable, each one is exquisite and delicious. Moreover, I mentioned in my reservation that I would like a window seat and the friendly hostess not only fulfilled it for us, but also prepared a table with a beautiful view. The service was absolutely great, the server was absolutely patient and enthusiastic to us. I highly recommend everyone to book a table in advance on their website rather than walk-in as they are in a busy month and are unlikely to have extra tables. I was one of those people who tried to walk-in but was told all the tables were sold out lol
Beautiful environment and delicious food! Price is reasonable for the environment and quality of food. I am impressed they served leaf tea instead of tea bags. Staff are helpful and professional.
It is beautiful and great place to take a break. Afternoon tea was okay, but nothing stood out. Make sure you would be there for atmosphere and “afternoon tea” experience, not for something “tasty” food.
What an experience !!! Definitely worth the wait travel. Loved their service, she was so polite yet informative. Food and tea was par excellence. Will definitely be coming back for more.
