We stopped at the Brighton Bakery/Liquor store on one of our many NC-Ontario road trips, and made a classic, instant roadtrip moment. I'm guessing it's a common occurrence, but the liquor store was open, yet locked, with a sign asking to "go next door to the bakery, and they'll let you in". Odd, yet interesting. Hmmm. Now looking back, it may have been a ploy to get us to set foot in this bakery with all it's completely awesome freshly baked bread smell, but who doesn't love fresh baked bread, right? Both my fiancé and I encountered the most friendly, awesome people helping us at both the liquor store and the bakery. And yes.. as much as I resisted the temptation, I walked out with the most delicious loaf of hot bread, which was hot enough to warm the inside of my truck and our tummies on this cold night in March. We're going out of way to stop here every trip from now on!

I lived right next door to this bakery so close to see little mice scale the bakeries exterior late at night. my room was on the first floor 15 feet from the outside wall of the bakery. i used to work in the bakery with edward stone ( RIP) and recall bad practices where workers would sneeze in batter and continue to bake saying it will cook off. i never seen one worker wash hands or wear gloves and in the back where they keep the jams for the pastries was littered with mice poop. the baking pans looked really old , dirty and i believe that there was cross contamination with peanut butter cookies and oatmeal cookies on the same cooking sheet. this could be deadly to people with a peanut allergy. I hope this bakery doesnt hurt someone. Also note workers life edward used to drink there and pass out in the back and burn cookies during there shift.I loved going to the liquor store next door though
