Boukan
"Boukan means “campfire” in English. The meaning of the campfire holds historical meaning. In the slavery days of Haiti, the “Boukan” was used as stoves to cook their food. These Boukans were also home to campfire gatherings/parties where the slaves would bond over good food, conversation, and dancing. The symbolism of the “Boukan” became memories of happiness, joy and togetherness. The goal of the Boukan restaurant is to express the rich culture of Haiti and Creole food in a sophisticated and modern way. Not only will you experience rich flavours as you immerse yourself in creole cuisine but you will also experience the positive and energetic vibes of a Boukan."

I don't think I have anything negative to say about this place—first time trying Haitian food. Our server was very helpful, the food came on time, plating and flavours were great. Will definitely come again. If you're looking for something different, absolutely try this place!
I accidentally found out about this place while looking for a place to eat in the neighborhood and glad that I did! This is my first time tasting Haitian cuisine and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I tried the Vegan plate which had banana fritters, dumplings, the fried quinoa balls along with a slaw and sauces and they were flavorful, fresh, crispy and was such a comfort eating them. The beignet dessert was equally good with the mango sauce. Above all what was even more impressive was the warmth and hospitality displayed by the owners who were present when we visited and the hosts who serviced us. They were incredibly friendly, took great care in helping us choose the items that we would prefer and made us feel like home! Thank you for it! If I have to provide one feedback, again just a minor minor one, is to include some vegetables in the platter which would complete the meal. Since everything else is pretty starchy and meaty, it would be a nice balance to have some vegetables with it, Haitian style, to balance it all out. But again that's just a minor thought that came to me! Nevertheless go ahead, and experience this great food, warmth and kindness by these fabulous folks!
Phenomenal experience! We had the chicken fritay meal and the shrimp plantain bowls. The food tastes amazing & is well seasoned. We were served by Judith who was such a delight & Ricardo came to speak to us about the menu and made our time there so enjoyable. The people here are top tier - they all had smiles on their beautiful faces. Great vibes all around!
This was my first time trying Haitian food and it was so good! The Akra was my favorite with that magical green sauce on the side. Amazing service too - such warm and welcoming people happy to share their food and culture thank you!
Nothing makes my Haitian kids happier than a delicious Haitian dinner. Fantastic experience tonight. Thank you Boukan for an absolutely wonderful meal! Excellent service, superb food. The owner is so friendly, he really made our meal special. We will be back again and again!
Hung out with a friend at Boukan to celebrate the end of our grad year. Ricardo’s service for the night was amazing. The prices were great for the food quality and quantity, and the music created a nice, relaxing vibe. Would definitely recommend, this was my third visit personally and I’ve loved it every time!
If you want a unique and flavourful dining experience, I highly recommend checking out Boukan. This Haitian Caribbean fusion restaurant offers an array of mouth-watering street food dishes like the Banana Beignet with Mango Dip and the Brown Butter Hennessy Chicken + Waffles, which are both crispy and delicious. The colourful decor and laid-back atmosphere made for a great dining experience with my best friend, and we even enjoyed some mango mimosas. I also enjoyed the Omelet Bliss, filled with tasty goat cheese, spinach, onions, and tomatoes, served with green plantain, pikliz, and epis aioli. The portions were generous enough to take some home to share with my family. The epis aioli with fries is a big hit with my two-year-old. I must also commend the exceptional service provided by Miles and all the staff at Boukan. They were attentive and friendly, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. It's always great to see a team that takes pride in its work and values its customers. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try out their dinner menu. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking a unique and flavourful meal in a relaxed yet professional setting.
This was my first time trying Haitian food and I was SO impressed! The presentation of each dish was impeccable and the chef went above and beyond to create very tasty fare with such attention to detail. Everything is made and served with care which is such an awesome experience. Thanks also to our server Judith who was so sweet and to the rest of the team who were all inviting and made it a fun experience. The DJ and Beyoncé playlist was a plus!! I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. Ps: to fellow vegans/vegetarians, you will NOT be disappointed here, lots of great tasty options that do not feel like they are an afterthought. Very well done keeping us in mind. I had the vegan fritay, vegan black bean burger, and banana beignets not sure if vegan, didn’t ask didn’t care, just excited to try they were all AMAZING.
Boukan brings the vibe and the fry. Their new location has the Haitian spirit of fun and dance, with its music, decor, and an endless amount of fried food and flowing alcohol. Stopped by for dinner and got: - Boukanye Burger: Completey vegan even the 'bun' was plantain. The 'patty' was an interesting mix of beans, mushrooms and spices - pretty tasty. - Shrimp Creole Fritay: Fried goodness. Sweet and green plantains, fried dumplings and spicy coleslaw surround sauce-bathed shrimp. Would have liked more shrimp and it to be less rubbery. But if you like all that fry, definitely get this. - Jamaican Rum Cake: Didnt realize this would be a cheesecake. Strong enough taste of rum though to make it interesting. - Rum Punch: A bit on the sweeter side but still pretty good. Boukan is a great spot to meet up with friends and just enjoy a night that stretches into the wee hours of the morning. Stop by if you want to join the party!
Omg ! After craving authentic Haitian food, me and my girl hit up this place and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time! The atmosphere is so welcoming and nice ! Our server Ricardo was so polite, respectful and made sure we were always good ! The drinks were amazing and really worth your penny ! Will def be coming again !
