A good spacious cafe in New Haven. Coffee was good but service was slow. Only 1 person preparing all the orders of coffee. Seems like this cafe is under staffed, the seating area needed some cleaning.
Blue State Coffee is a small and central cafe in New Haven. I came here with my wife to get a take away coffee. We both ordered a Cappuccino and they offer it with different types of milk. Even though the service was not especially friendly it came quick and the coffee was good. I liked the glassware coffee extractor as decoration while you wait for your coffee. They have some small tables where you will find lots of students working with their laptops or chatting. All in all it's a nice atmosphere and one can get good coffee in the medium price segment and experience of students life style around Yale University.
First off, there wasn't a picture or listing of their menu anywhere, so I've included a picture. Very impressed with this coffee shop. My coffee was delicious! They also allowed me to place a vote on what non-profit some of their profits would go to. I picked one for doggies. It was pretty crowded, but what else could you expect for a good coffee shop near a college. They also had gender-neutral bathrooms, which I was very impressed by. Making everyone feel welcome is important.
Today I found out that Blue State Coffee responsibly sources all of their products from local businesses. I support them because they give 2% of their sales to charity and their coffee is really good! It's ideal if you need a nice spot to get some work done or if you're up for a good beverage and some people watching.
I had blue state coffee for the first time and it was tasty. I wanted to try something new and asked server for a coffee which is not to bitter. She prepared a latte and it was very tasty. I can drink this latte every morning.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: YesDelivery: NoCurbside pickup: Yes
Besides my burnt sandwich, this place used to be way better, I dunno what happened. I had to wait almost 30 minutes for a drink. Hire more people maybe ? The two people working there were so overwhelmed.
Good seating area. Filter coffee was ok, little dark roast. Spacious cafee a lot of place to sit do your work or study.
Discovered this coffee spot on my weekend stay in the area. Love their donation thing they got going on. Staff was friendly and fast. I got my usual espresso which is how I personally judge a coffee shop. They had their own blend of espresso which my taste buds were quite happy with. Strong, sweet and not overly burnt. The barista has the grind size and timing down. Also got the Ethiopian pour over which was light and not too sweet. Just how an Ethiopian should taste. I’d recommend this to any coffee connoisseur.
Last I checked, plastic was not an ingredient in the lox bagel sandwich. Yet, I found a piece of plastic as I was attempting to enjoy a nice breakfast from Blue State Coffee. I had placed a to-go order, and when I called them about the fact that I could have choked and been sent to the hospital, they seemed to respond as though this happens on a daily basis. The lady on the phone was extremely lax, unperturbed by the fact that a customer was at risk of physical harm, and said I could go back for a refund. Now, had I been hospitalized, I highly doubt that $8.15 would have been enough to cover the bill. Nevertheless, I went back to the place and once again, explained the situation. Never before have I seen such repulsive behavior and attitude. I had taken the bagel back to show them the chunk of plastic, and while I received my refund, the lady snatched the bag out of my hand and took it out of sight. If the plastic wasn't enough to get me hospitalized, the amount of shock that I experienced from such appalling customer service definitely was. They titled their shop quite accurately, as the experience there will most certainly leave you in a "blue state." P.S. I understand that the turtles are harmed by plastic, but I didn't expect that I would experience their pain firsthand. I learned the true meaning of "save the turtles."
Love blue state coffee but there is always an issue at this location at York street. Try to visit any of their other locations in new haven because their coffee is really good. Again we got the wrong order here, waited another 10 min until it got fixed. I get my beans from here too, which were forgotten so I had to wait another 10 min until someone was available to grind them. I asked for fine ground for an espresso machine but that didn’t work either and I got coarse coffe grinds... 16$ beans that I won’t be able to use for my espresso machine. Love their coffee and beans but we will avoid this location
