History:
The Belles Lettres Club was organized in 1888 for the purpose of studying literature. in 1891 the club joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs and a charter was granted in 1892 for the study of literature and maintaining a public library. After the Club was federated, the women of the Belles Lettres established Oil City's first library. In 1923 Mr. Henery McSweeney presented his former home on West First Street to the Club for a club house. In 1929 a large auditorium was added to the home.
Membership:
The Club is open to all women. Regular meetings are held at 1 p.m. the second Friday of each month September through May. Please call the Club for additional information about membership.
Rental:
Auditorium for large events such as wedding receptions, anniversaries, birthdays, parties, business, and trade shows. Accommodates up to 200 people.
Front Parlor for smaller events such as showers, piano recital, and intimate gatherings. Accommodates 50 people at maximum.
Kitchen Facilities available.
Stage for theatrical productions. Piano available.
Parking lot and street parking available.
Handicap ramp access.
Air Conditioned.
Alcohol allowed.
Bring in own catering.
