This little spot is insanely delicious. I'm so thrilled to have stumbled across this gem of an eatery. Gluten allergy kids rejoice because they have a gluten free batter option! The cod is cooked to perfection..crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. The chips, coleslaw, and tarter sauce are the perfect complement to the star of the plate. The small but mighty food cart is located inside a food cartel that offers picnic tables to enjoy your freshly cooked meal. You can also take your food to-go if you wish. Next time you are craving fish n' chips, stop by The Frying Scotsman. It will not disappoint. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free option.
Haddock was fantastic. Cod was great. Haggis was ok. Chips were on point. Fried Mars bars were delicious! Potions were huge. James was polite, helpful, and friendly. Thank you for a great wee gab! We will be back to try the mushy peas!
Only proper fish and chip shop in the Portland metro. The haddock ones are great. Firmer and more flavorful than the typical Atlantic codFood: 5/5
So good. Haddock batter was so light and perfectly done. And the chips were amazing too. Split the large with my husband plenty of food! and enjoyed it with a nice Pilsner at the tap house a few steps away.
Whenever we visit Portland, we drive a little further just to have these fish and chips! They are very delicious. Light weight, good flavor and hand cut fries. Cannot get any better than these fish and chips. Always order the haddock fish and chips!
Had a cod fish supper and haggis supper: Both were tasty, though a little blander than expected. Be sure to cost your suppers in malt vinegar for authenticity Parking: Parking is on a lot diagonal to the carts.
This place is so good. The batter on the fish is light and super crispy. Even at the dinner rush the food was ready in a timely manner. Had just enough time to grab a beer and come back to pick up my order. Would highly recommend it!
Excellent haddock & chips! The fish was perfectly cooked - moist and flavorful, as were the chunky chips. I got the large size, expecting to save half for the next meal. Nope! Ate it all and just skipped that next meal. Pretty sure the tartar sauce and coleslaw were made in house; both were also excellent. This guy knows his stuff. Bonus options: panko or GLUTEN-FREE batter at small additional charge. It was a perfect late lunch on a sunny PDX day.
Our go-to menu item is the Haddock fish n' chips. Walk right up to the cart, order, pay, and owner will tell you exactly how many minutes it will be ready. Condiments are self-added after the order comes out. The fried batter is absolutely perfect golden color, satisfying crunchy bite if you eat it right away. Their curry dip also pairs well, just comfort food at its finest. Thank you for this experience!
I’ve tried to the fish n chips at this cart at least 3 times. It has always been closed! Tonight, we arrived at 6:10 as Google showed the cart to be open till 7:00. It was CLOSED but there was a person inside. I knocked at the window & he came out. He pointed to a sign in the window with clearly some new letters & numbers showing that on THURSDAYS, the cart is now closed at 6:00!! I asked why he didn’t update the information. He made it clear he had no intention of providing Google with his revised closing time. May be great food, but definitely poor customer service.
