This gallery is a gem. It's a beautiful space and hosts a variety of thoughtful and provoking exhibits.nnThere's a small cafe right off the lobby that is bright and airy, and a small gift shop as well.nnHighly recommended and a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.
I really enjoyed the gallery. There are lot of interesting pieces, for example Dali. We even laid down on the floor to check the picture from a different angle. There is also a cafe where you can enjoy a cup of espresso. I recommend this place.
We were staying at Hilton Gardens, about 5 minutes walk. We went twice in a 6 day visit to Fredericton. Friday evening about 6 ish. There was an event occupying about 1/2 of the gallery we were not allowed to vist, but we got to see the gallery collection of masters and some modern art. They have a surprisingly broad collection of Reynolds, Constable, Group of Seven, Carr, 14th century works as well as a Monkman with Chief Eagletesticle, current events, interactive work and more. We spent 2 hours including an Artist's talk in the basement discussing his 3d animation work.nnA couple of days later we went back to see the half we missed and it was just as impressive. Mostly more modern works by people I haven't heard of which means nothing, I am not particularly knowledgeable about modern art but there dies seem to be emphasis on Canadian work.nnI was particularly interested in the first nations work, an exhibition of Kentucky Asheville looked remarkably related to the Woodland Style of Norway Morrisseau I am more familiar with being from the prairies.nnThe cafe was very good too. Nice place for a cuppa while you rested up a bit. They had a menu item called Cream Egg, which I assumed was some sort of sweet treat thinking of Cadbury Eggs but turned out to be a nice hot and filling soup. Sort of like a potato and bacon chowder served over a soft boiled egg. Really good and a very adequate lunch.nnWe were there during the eclipse of 2024 so there were also family related artsy activities for families and visitors on Sunday which were fun too.nnAll in all, I would recommend a visit, and since I only get to Fredericton infrequently I will make sure to visit every time as the content constantly changes
The Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, New Brunswick, is a cultural treasure trove, offering an exceptional blend of historical and contemporary art. Established in 1959, the gallery boasts an impressive permanent collection, including masterpieces by European artists like Salvador Dalí and J.M.W. Turner, alongside significant works by Canadian artists and indigenous creators. Its thoughtfully curated exhibitions and dynamic contemporary pieces ensure a fresh and engaging experience for all visitors. Moreover, the gallery's commitment to education and inclusivity, through various programs and diverse artist representations, makes it a pivotal institution in fostering a deeper appreciation for the visual arts.
The art museum is like a time-traveling storyteller, gathering cool art pieces from all sorts of times and places. You can see how art and culture tag-teamed with human history, telling a tale of creativity across the ages.nnBut it's not just a history lesson; it's a vibe for new artists too. They get their own spotlight, making the museum this awesome mix of old-school classics and fresh, out-of-the-studio artworks.nnAnd can we talk about how well they keep the place? It's like an art sanctuary, always looking fly and ready for visitors. So, if you're into checking out how our artistic vibes have changed and evolved, or if you're a budding artist looking for a spot to shine, this museum's got your back. Totally worth a visit!
