Beaver Island, MI has a unique history like no other, and The Beaver Island Historical Society is passionate about sharing it with everyone.

Story

The Beaver Island Historical Society was founded in 1956, and has steadily grown.
Today it has two museums, a Heritage Park with outdoor displays, and the Protar Home, which is open five times each summer. The 300-member-strong Historical Society is managed by an 11-member Board of Trustees:
Doug Hartle, president
Barry Pischner, vice-president
Linda Wearn, secretary
Sandy Birdsall, treasurer
Other members are: Charlie Donaldson, Sally Fogg, Alvin LaFreniere, Caroline Latta, Joe Rahn, John Runberg, and Mike Weede.

This is your one stop shop for learning about all the great history of the island. The staff are very knowledgeable and it is free to enter so there is no excuse not to go. They also have a scavenger hunt for the kids. This should be one of the first places you visit, it will help you appreciate the island more.
