We stayed a couple of days in the surrounding hotel so we tried the supposed best restaurants in Tofino as well as the Beachfront Bistro. The result: The Beachfront Bistro is poles apart from the leading restaurants like Kuma or Shelter. I mean, the food itself is alright and worth 4 points. But the overall package including the drab hotel atmosphere and the sometimes overchallenged service leads to a 3 points devaluation.
We have gone to this restaurant for many years. Service has been great and food is always incredible. This time around we spent 3 of our evenings at this restaurant. Each time the food was good each time we had a different server. The first server we had was Ron. I wish we would have requested his section every time. He was amazing. Pleasant with a smile, nice conversation and made sure our orders were right, we were comfortable and he went the extra mile. The other two nights food was good but service not so much. Thank you Ron for making our experience amazing. The other nights that service was horrible was my husband's birthday and our anniversary. I was very disappointed for such a nice place. Thanks again Ron!!!
Food was good, and the restaurant has a great view, and is nicely decorated and built. Service was crappy, and the drinks sucked. The latte was nice though. Maybe stopping here for coffee and a snack is a better option than a meal, especially if you have places to go afterwards. We ordered the hot spinach dip great!, the calamari too many peppers and too few squid pieces, fish and chips average and the seafood fettuccine amazing, very generous portions of seafood!.
We dropped into the restaurant because I was craving eggs Benedict. I make my order, and make sure to tell the server I am allergic to melon. Very quickly, our food arrives, but there is melon on my plate. I'm not sure why, I did not order fruit and I emphasized my allergy, but whatever, I ask for it to be fixed. I waited until my daughter had finished her breakfast and drink, and I had finished my coffee before becoming frustrated. I never got a refill on my coffee. No one checked on us or even just my daughter to make sure the food was good she was pleased with her croissant, fruit, and yogurt. Finally, I start looking around and can see our server in a doorway. She glances at me, but does not move. A few minutes later, I catch a different woman's eye and she comes to check. I cancelled my order, paid and left. I do not now how long we waited, but I was not pleased. I went without breakfast, and left feeling grumpy. I have this place 2 stars because the view is spectacular, and the atmosphere is nice. The service is subpar, and I never got to taste their breakfast, so not much else to go on.
Wonderful location and view. Had dinner and the food was fine, but the staff seemed way overloaded, i.e., not enough staff. The wait time seemed extrordinarily long. In fact, we ordered ice cream for desert and after at least 20 minutes our server showed up with it telling us she had to prepare it herself. Really felt bad about our haggard server, but understood why previous commenters talked about the poor dinner service. At breakfast the service was prompt and the food good.
The atmosphere is cosy and the view stunning! I had the beef burger which was not outstanding, but pretty decent. But especially the service was great! Alexandra who served us, was very lovely and helpful. She checked on us several times and always tossed the coffee up right away! After all an awesome experience, but mainly because of the experience, in other words the atmosphere and service! I will come back!
Took 2 mins to get seated and order drinks. Drinks took 10 mins to get to the table. We ordered appys and meals appys arrived in a timely fashion. We then sat and waited about 15 mins after we finished our apps and no one came to check on how the food was or could any drinks be topped up. Finally all of our food order arrived at the same time and the three servers all once attempted to put our meals on the table alongside the empty appy plates. I had asked for my fries to be extra crispy and had to return them as they were barely cooked. At no time did anyone come to check on how we or the food was. We finished eating and had to wait again at least 10 min for someone to come and clear table. They were about to walk away and we had to stop them to ask for a desert menu and to top up coffees. High note. Desert was excellent although slow to get to the table. Come time for the bill they arbitrarily added “15% service charge” to the bill. With the exception that the fish was overdone and fries underdone the rest of the food was ok. Service wasn’t worth 5% gratuity. There must be better choices in Tofino. We’ll fine out tomorrow.
Good service, beautiful location, nice outdoor seating area. I had the seafood linguini and it was delicious and very filling. Totally packed with all kinds of ocean goodness, not stingy at all with the seafood. Highly recommended. My partner had the fish and chips which was good, but nothing to write home about. Nice light batter. Fries were only OK.
The service was lousy , we were ignored for quite some time , people who arrived after us we're served first ,had to flag for service , which took 1 hr and 45 minutes , there were 3 of us adults and 2 children , our meals were simple , burgers , fish and chips chicken fingers with appetizers to start , but we ended up leaving because my husband and two grandchildren had finished their main course while myself and daughter still waited for ours ,we ended up leaving , because it was an HR and 45 mins now with a restless toddler and child plus we had plans . When I went to pay the guy who's dealing with my check tells me our meals were just about ready , and said it was because we ordered appetizers why our order was still being waited for , meanwhile the other people who came in after us had already eaten and left. It's like this all the time for local first Nations , even when we attend meetings there our snacks are dry and old , the condiments are never on the table , our lunch is dry, despite all the servers we continue to wait and wait.
So we walked in and got greeted by the hostes and had a lovely view of the beach and sunset, then it all started going downhill. Our drink took forever, sadly the bartender was our server too, out appetizers came after a 45 minute wait and came cold. The couple next to us order wine and a beer and had to wait 45 mins for the beer. We almost walked out after having a talk with the manager on shift. They told us after another 45 minute wait for main course that our plates were unpresentable they had to remake our food. So we agreed to stay for them. Sadly we got a horrible meal our steak was over cooked and tons of fat on the steak, the fries were the bottom of a bag dumped in a fryer, and was all small bits. The seafood linguine the noodles were under cooked, the sauce was so runny with zero flavour, the shrimp were over cooked and rubbery, and for the price we paid for everything even with appetizers got taken off the bill was still more expensive then shelter. If I had a choice I would never go back, the cooks are horrible and not run right. The servers just roam around and at one point our server came out with food on her mouth. Sadly an enjoyable day in Tofino was ruined after arriving at 6:45 at night for dinner to leave at 9:15pm waiting for poor food. I never walked out of a restaurant and my gut said to pay for the drinks and leave, and I should have followed my gut, save your money and go somewhere else. The worst $80 dinner I ever had with poor service!
