I was referred to this office by my pcp but knew nothing of it. After reading a number of the reviews here, I was gravely concerned about what I was in store for. Let me say that I was very pleasantly surprised. Everyone I encountered during my visit was very attentive, kind, and helpful. The front desk person acknowledged me the moment I walked through the door, was friendly and patient. The nurse was pleasant and efficient. The doctor went out of her way to ensure I was at ease, taking the time to listen to my concerns and talk me through procedures, both before and after. She was incredibly sweet. Even our follow up phone call was lovely. I'm not sure what changed between those last reviews and my visit to this office, but I feel like this place cares about their patients, and goes above and beyond to make sure we know it.
It would be nice if they didn’t mess up the scheduling. How are you going to tell me a day, write it down for me on a card and then when I get there tell me it’s not that day. Very unprofessional, the lady who did it was sat right there and did not apologize or own up to her mistake. They don’t seem sorry for the inconveniences. I get that mistakes happen but then you should fix that mistake, won’t be going here after I don’t have to. * to add to this, your practice shouldn’t have this many 1 star reviews, take better care of your patients and hire more competent staff :
Our baby Roslyn was delivered just fine! Dr Cockfield went above and beyond for us when it mattered most in delivery and recovery! She sets the standard in patient care and professionalism as a doctor and surgeon! We really liked working with nurse Jess! She is a great nurse with a positive attitude, provide excellent care, and she always has a good solution/answer to any questions you have! Also, Stacey was a great help, and she put extra time in to ensure our baby was feeding correctly and offered solutions for improvement. I was a bit paranoid with procedures and drugs given as a first-time parent but staff members were quick to give a good answer. Hopefully their bathrooms get renovated soon bc the showers are very small and out-dated. Also, the water took a very long time to warm up. I hope a certain staff member works on being courteous to patients. I could go on about the birth night access/ordeal but I don’t think it’s appropriate or significant enough to talk about. We all make mistakes, patients and staff, let’s not ruin everyone’s night.
I have had two pregnancies through this office so have quite a bit of experience and interaction. I loved Dr. Rider, who unfortunately is no longer there. In my opinion, she was the doctor that showed the greatest level of genuine care for her patients. The major problem with this office is they have too many doctors so there's a true lack of getting to know their patients - their concerns, pregnancy preferences, needs, etc. And since you are seeing so many different doctor's, the notes of what you discuss, should be comprehensive, but they are not. I had thought what I was sharing was being recorded for the next doctor to review, but when I requested notes from all my appointments, it was a huge disappointment to see a sentence at best from each interaction and what my major concern had been, wasn't noted at all. Be aware that if you go here, you have to repeat yourself at each doctor's appointment to ensure you're getting the care you need. I had an issue in which I had asked twice to come in and be checked, but since it was outside their 'routine' schedule, I was told flat out no. I was to the point of crying on the phone and offered to pay cash for the additional visit, and still the receptionist most of whom are also quite rude told me no with zero compassion. Pregnancy is a time to treasure. It's also a time where most women need support from our doctors. This office sees so many patients that it seems to be more about the business than it is ensuring women have the guidance, care, and experience they desire in pregnancy. I came back after my first pregnancy because of the positive experience with Dr. Ryder. If I had to do it again, I would definitely choose a different practice.
So my husband and I started to go to this office since it was the better option, Now during my whole pregnancy everything was great I can't complain. The due date came and sadly I broke water, green water, te be more specific, something that is call meconium. Now we are not doctors but something that you hear from the ob many times is that is not good for the baby, when we were in the delivery room we ask many but many times. Is it dangerous for the baby? And everyone answered us yes it is .. my husband and I didn't understand for what we were waiting for if the liquid was dangerous for him. Long story after 31 hours they decide to rush me into a c section and while I was open I could hear how they were trying to resuscitate my baby because he ingested so much of that liquid that he couldn't breath. I couldn't hold him because he was in intensive care and they asked me so say goodbye to him since they couldn't take care of him there so they had to send him to a Nicu in Traverse city. I was alone in a room for 2 days hoping my baby will survive and be just fine. I just beg my husband to take me out of that place, I didn't care I was in pain I just wanted to leave and be with him. He is ok now and we are grateful for him but we were left with a really sad experience as a new parents and full of bills paying resuscitation fees, special care fees. If they would've acted faster I belive the story would've been different.
Do not go here if you care about your emotional and mental health. They have no empathy for their patients. I got pregnant and they wouldn't see me for my first appointment until I was 12 weeks. When I made my 12 week appointment the receptionist was skeptical that I was pregnant. At the time I had taken 7 pregnancy tests and they were all positive and I missed my period. At a little over 5 weeks I miscarried. I ended up going to my local ER after I had called Bay View saying I was miscarrying and they said they would call me back when they decided if I should be seen by them that day. While I was in ER being told I did infact miscarry, Bay View called me and left a voicemail saying I probably wasn't pregnant and I was just getting my period. Despite all that happened the ER told me to make a follow up appointment with Bay View to make sure I was clear on my ultrasounds following the miscarriage. The day before my appointment Bay View called me to confirm the appointment and then asked me if I had any symptoms that would indicate there was anything left over from the miscarriage. I told them I was feeling fine. They then decided I had passed everything during the miscarriage and I didn't need to be seen so they canceled my appointment. I live 45 minutes away from them and work a 9-5 Monday - Friday job so I had to request time off to go to this appointment. This was my first pregnancy and miscarriage and they made my experience awful! Whenever I do get pregnant again I will NOT be calling them.
Medical staff is nice and polite. Office staff doesn’t seem to pay attention to patients as much. Coming from California and Central Michigan, our experience has been much better in those hospitals, even though I was told McLaren Petoskey was the “Little Mayo Clinic of Northern MI” all I’ve seen is a downgrade in infrastructure from what I saw in McLaren Central Michigan and ruder staff. Even parking lots are a big tight mess where after being trap at the dr’s office waiting for a while, I came out to find our car with scratches from someone whom didn’t bother to even leave their phone number. Trash. Calling the OBGyn you have to insist, they keep throwing you to voicemail. Once you are at the office, they don’t acknowledge you unless you say something. I would give 1 star, but I give three only because the medical staff is actually respectful and polite.
The doctor was great, but the first time I came I was 5 minutes before my actual appointment, but "late" because I was supposed to get there early as a new patient to fill in some paperwork and THEY TURNED ME AWAY! Of course when I arrived early for my rescheduled appointment, I waited to see the doctor. The reception area made a decision to be what I would call, at least, unfriendly. What a massive waste of my time to drive there the first time and drive home without being seen. So the message is... you better be flexible about their time, but no way are they going to be flexible with yours. Second message = "patient is enemy".
I had to have a c section unexpectedly when my placenta died and was risking losing my son within an hour of me agreeing to do the surgery they had me in the OR. After 11 months you can barely see my scar. They did an amazing job! The same thing happened to my cousin the year before at Gaylord hospital and they cut her from her belly button down. She's told me many times she wishes she took the time to drive 40 miles one way to Bay View for her visits. I will definitely go back when I have another baby.
The physicians and staff here are amazing! They are helpful, knowledgeable, and all around wonderful. I happily make the 1 hour & 15 minute drive to Petoskey to recieve their excellent care.
